Pop Duo from a song nobody heard from an album that bombed catastrophically on Billboard 200.

after three years of gaga dominating in the pop categories idk why anyone would even think about underestimating her regardless of whether her songs are a hit or not. she has a better chance at winning with a flop song than most artists with hit songs in pop categories.

It lost to a Gaga song so this is a bad point.

It lost to a no.1 song, again you overestimate Gaga in pop field, esp. now that she is no longer pulling numbers, you could say in Joanne pop solo she was having a big commercial ost during that time, but now it is different, nobody cares.

During voting, Shallow was not a #1 hit actually.

It peaked at #5 and then hovered around in the top 30. The reason why it’s as big a song as it is is because of the Oscar performance, which didn’t happen until months after grammy voting.

Still she was having a massive ost at the time, this is not the same case, Shallow was one of the biggest songs in her career at the time, this Tony Bennett project apart traditional pop vocal album doesn’t have more reach.

Actually, there’s a pretty decent chance that she’ll once again be starring in a blockbuster during voting for wins

Shallow was one of the biggest songs in her career at the time,

Chart run for Shallow up till voting:
    28-5-10-14-21-22-24-23-28-38

Shallow is obviously now one of the biggest songs of all time but during voting it was a moderate hit at best.

this Tony Bennett project apart traditional pop vocal album doesn’t have more reach.

Why wouldn’t it? They’re reminding voters at every available opportunity that it’s his final album, both Tony and Gaga are previous winners here and Tony just got a surprise nom for a song that had ZERO narrative or hype.

Well… we aren’t predicting the Billboard Music Awards 💀 I personally wouldn’t give them the award (KMM deserves) but the argument that they shouldn’t win an award for quality because their song flopped is dumb.

a nightmare, that award has their names on it

Before controversy yes, I think even if it had been submitted it wouldn’t have gotten the votes because Dua’s fans would vote for her other eligible songs

That song that won pop duo went no.1 and the other didn’t win, so my point stands.

Your point does not stand. Lady Gaga is undefeated in the category, and Tony has only lost once and it was to Gaga. That on top of it being a good song from the final album of a legend makes it a contender

Yeah, Gaga winning in pop for a song no one has heard of would be COMPLETELY unprecedented

First of all perfect point. Second, it was unexpected but so deserved IMO. Love that song

Grammy voters are really lazy in pop categories, you will see it soon.

No longer pulling numbers? I have to laugh a little. She had a number 1 album and a Grammy-winning number 1 song just last year. And Love for Sale is a genre that never is a big hit in terms of charts and it still made the top 10 on the BB200. It’s so frustrating seeing people constantly downgrade and underestimate Gaga, with no genuine argument. She is in the top 10 most awarded female artists of all time at the Grammys and almost every single award came from the pop field. She is not to be doubted

It debuted no.8 with discounts, alternative covers and bunch of gimmicks. Nobody cares if she had a no.1 album in 2020.

Are we seriously pretending that this laziness won’t benefit a duo that has 22 wins and 35 nominations in pop?

Speaking of lazy voters, I wouldn’t be shocked if Pop solo nominations are a big time mess. When are the pop categories will be added in the prediction center ?
