I never compared it to them artistically, just commercially. If you’d like to give a reason why it’s such a terrible analogy be my guest, otherwise I’m not gonna bother with you.

Besides my last points, ARTPOP, Melodrama, and The Thrill of It All  were all literally in early parts of the respective artists’ careers and were follow-ups to huge successes. Ariana was a BPVA nominee and had huge success before TUN era lmao and Positions matched the success of Ariana’s previous albums. So yes it’s a terrible analogy and makes zero sense. Positions if anything is like Reputation, Lover, Meaning of Life, Beautiful Trauma… all which were nominated.

I don’t really see Doja or Lil Nas X as “crossover” artists. They broke through with pop music. Their image is fairly pop-friendly. And Post Malone’s album was old as hell. I could see them both missing. But I could also see them both making it. Like I said, the only thing that bothers me is how assured folks are when we know the game changes a bit every year.

ARTPOP was Lady Gaga’s fourth album and she alredy had four Grammys, two from the Pop field. That is definitely not considered early in her career. Maybe Positions will fair better than those albums, all I ever claimed was that it has a chance of joining them, which is something you have yet to acknowledge much less refute.

First Time BPVA Nominees in the last 10 years: winner in bold

    2021:

    • Future Nostalgia – Dua Lipa
    • Fine Line – Harry Styles

    2020:

    • WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? – Billie Eilish

    2019:

    • Camila – Camila Cabello
    • Shawn Mendes – Shawn Mendes

    2018:

    • Evolve – Imagine Dragons
    • Rainbow – Kesha

    2017:

    • Confident – Demi Lovato
    • This is Acting – Sia

    2016:

    • 1989 – Taylor Swift
    • Uptown Special – Mark Ronson

    2015:

    • In The Lonely Hour – Sam Smith
    • Bangerz – Miley Cyrus
    • My Everything – Ariana Grande

    2014:

    • Paradise – Lana Del Rey
    • Pure Heroine – Lorde
    • Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke

    2013:

    • Ceremonials – Florence + the Machine
    • Some Nights – Fun.

    2012:

    • 21 – Adele
    • The Lady Killer – Cee Lo Green
    • Doo-Wops & Hooligans – Bruno Mars
    • Loud – Rihanna

They have not nominated more than TWO First-time BPVA Artists within the last SIX years, Olivia, Doja, and Lil Nas X are possible but it’s unlikely all three get in, and since Olivia is a “near-lock”, Doja and Lil Nas X will be fighting for a hopeful 6th slot against previous winners and multi-nominees.

Well the tea is we are actually going for a 2015, 2014, 2012 lineup.

also, nas is already an aoty nominee so it’s not like he’s a newbie fighting for a breakout nod.

this is really shitty, but its worth a conversation, winners in bold

Black / POC Artists nominated in BPVA in the Last 10 Years:

2020: The Lion King: The Gift – Beyonce

2014: Unorthodox Jukebox – Bruno Mars

    2012:

    • The Lady Killer – Cee Lo Green
    • Loud – Rihanna
    • Doo-Wops & Hooligans – Bruno Mars

The fact that we’re only trying to get in 2 POC artists when we’ve had 3 POC BPVA nominees before..?

I’m really baffled by the decision to not submit Cold Heart. I’m hearing it everywhere in L.A. It’s gaining traction at the right time when the vote is underway.

i remember mentioning it but it was just an assumption since Elton’s submission to pop duo/group was his song with Stevie.

Yes. I think the song isn’t eligible for BPDGP.
