Surely H.E.R. will get in Traditional R&B Performance for either “Fight for You” or “Change”?

“Fight for You” could definitely happen in Traditional.

    My current predictions:
    H.E.R., “Fight for You”
Jam & Lewis f/ Babyface, “He Don’t Know Nothin’ Bout It”
Silk Sonic, “Leave the Door Open”
Jazmine Sullivan, “Pick Up Your Feelings”
Stevie Wonder f/ Gary Clark Jr., “Where Is Our Love Song”

There’s a possibility Stevie & Gary go BPDGP. But I’ll keep them in Traditional for now.

Would love if H.E.R. submitted “Hold On” to Traditional R&B Performance or even R&B Song. Granted, I’m expecting “Fight For You” and “Damage”.

Watch out for Andra Day in Traditional R&B for “Strange Fruit”. She performed it at the BET Awards along with “Tigress & Tweed”. I’m thinking Day might be a surprise nomination morning.

I think “Bring it on Home to Me” by BJ the Chicago Kid, PJ Morton & Kenyon Dixon (feat. Charlie Bereal) could make it into Traditional R&B Performance. Anything by PJ Morton could possibly make it. He is always showing up in the R&B field each year.

    BEST R&B PERFORMANCE
    1. H.E.R. – Damage
    2. Giveon – Heartbreak Anniversary
    3. Jazmine Sullivan – Pick Up Your Feelings
    4. SZA feat. Ty Dolla $ign & The Neptunes – Hit Different
    5. Jon Batiste – I NEED YOU
    (6. Jam & Lewis feat. Mariah Carey – Somewhat Loved (There You Go Breakin’ My Heart))

    BEST TRADITIONAL R&B PERFORMANCE
    1. Silk Sonic – Leave The Door Open
    2. Jazmine Sullivan feat. Ari Lennox – On It
    3. H.E.R. – Fight For You
    4. Lucky Daye feat. Yebba – How Much Can A Heart Take
    5. BJ the Chicago Kid – Letter 2 U
    (6. Jennifer Hudson – Ain’t No Mountain High Enough)

    BEST R&B SONG
    1. Leave The Door Open
Anderson .Paak, Bruno Mars, Christopher Brody Brown & Dersnt Emile II, songwriters. (Silk Sonic)

    2. Damage
Anthony Clemons Jr, Carl McCormick, H.E.R., James Harris, Jeff Gitelman, Terry Lewis & Tiara Thomas, songwriters. (H.E.R.)

    3. Girl Like Me
H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Tarron Crayton & Uforo Ebong, songwriters. (Jazmine Sullivan feat. H.E.R.)

    4. Heartbreak Anniversary
Giveon Evans, Maneesh, Sevn Thomas & Varren Wade, songwriters.(Giveon)

    5. Good Days

    BEST R&B ALBUM
    1. Silk Sonic – An Evening With Silk Sonic
    2. Jazmine Sullivan – Heaux Tales
    3. Jam & Lewis – Jam & Lewis, Volume 1
    4. Lucky Daye – Table For Two
    5. Alicia Keys – ALICIA
    (6. Andra Day – The United States vs Billie Holiday (Music from the Motion Picture)*)

*since most of the songs are covers, I think the album isn’t eligible for Compilation Soundtrack.

    BEST PROGRESSIVE R&B ALBUM
    1. H.E.R. – Back Of My Mind
    2. Jon Batiste – WE ARE
    3. Celeste – Not Your Muse (Deluxe)
    4. SAULT – Nine*
    5. Georgia Anne Muldrow – VWETO III
    (6. Joji – NECTAR*)

    * both albums could compete in Alternative (Joji’s last did, IDK about SAULT), but I’m taking a wild guess considering they do fit in as Progressive R&B and Joji especially has charted multiple songs on R&B radio.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is submitted instead of “Fight for You,” which will most likely get its due in the Song/Media category.

She performed it on SNL, the CMTs, and in her mini virtual concert, so maybe you’re right.

Ledisi just released her Nina Simone tribute album. Her cover of Four Women is stunning. And it features another Grammy winner, Lisa Fischer.

“Stay High” by Brittany Howard and Childish Gambino (or just the latter – I’m seeing conflicting reports on whether it’s a collaboration or a cover) just dropped recently. Could be a contender for R&B Performance, although it does sound a little poppy. Definitely sounds different from the original that won Best Rock Song this year.

    The original is superior

    This is entirely subjective

    the song is old news.

The original managed to beat the rock perf/alt album winner despite being 1 1/2 years old during voting
