Glad to see I’m not the only person who dislikes This Is America. The lyrics are stupid and the beat is disjointed and unpleasant to listen to. Just a bad song overall. The music video is good though.

I’ve always felt like Donald Glover is a much better actor than he is a singer. His performances in Solo, Community, and brief cameos in films like The Martian and Spider-Man Homecoming are always delightful, and this acting talent shows in the music video.

Get real! Best Urban Contemporary Album should NOT be eliminated. There is a difference between Beyoncé and Lizzo (contemporary R&B) and India.Arie and Maxwell (traditional R&B).

Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You should have been in the pop categories.

All of Beyoncé’s past albums except I Am… Sasha Fierce were rightfully placed in R&B. I see no reason why she shouldn’t be allowed to compete with India.Arie and Maxwell. Yeah, she’s exponentially more popular, but a lot of Grammy races end up being popularity contests anyway.

Is her music exactly the same as theirs? No. But is Ed Sheeran’s music the same as Lady Gaga’s, or is Adele’s the same as Billie Eilish’s? Of course not. But at the end of the day, they fall under the same general umbrella of pop.

Idk what was wrong with the Contemporary R&B name. I wouldn’t eradicate the category entirely tho.

Nothing was wrong with the Contemporary R&B name, but I guess they chose not to restore it because contemporary R&B albums are now competing in R&B Album alongside more traditional R&B music, with Urban Contemporary being reserved for the more pop/hip-hop oriented R&B and anything left-of-center that resembles R&B.

All of those albums (especially Lemonade & ANTI) fit the genre’s criteria: “albums containing at least 51 percent playing time of newly recorded contemporary vocal tracks derivative of R&B. This category is intended for artists whose music includes the more contemporary elements of R&B and may incorporate production elements found in urban pop, urban Euro-pop, urban rock, and urban alternative”.

I can’t thank you enough. This is what I’ve been looking for all day.

So, CHROMATICA debuts with 173.9 million streams ( 24 million more than dua lipa’s album) on spotify and 276k SPS in 1st week. Looks like we have got a tight race for Pop Vocal album

I still find it a shame there’s no committee for pop. I live to see the day where the pop vocal lineup would make people not actively following the music scene be like “What the fuck?” lol.

Bur congrats to Gaga. She’s a clear lock for a a BPVA nod right now.
