I would love to see Katy’s Smile nominated somehow, unfortunately it won’t.

It’s sad to think how Katy was so big just a few years ago. One bad era and you find yourself out of the game, music industry really is cruel.

Which genre do you see Fetch the Bolt Cutters entering?

I mean, it could (and should) go to Best Alternative Music Album, but I remember reading a Billboard story saying they could submit/nominate it on BPVA since it kinda has pop “elements” and she’s been nominated before for Extraordinary Machine. It also could go as far as Best Americana Album due to its raw and percurssion-led sound.

The album doesn’t fit any genre convetion, critics noted it in almost every review, so I think it’s a great question.

Alternative, Billboard predicts BTS for the 3rd year in a row and gets it wrong. Never trust them.

    FYC:
AOTY: Fetch the Bolt Cutters or After Hours
ROTY & SOTY: Blinding Lights & Don’t Start Now
BNA: Megan Thee Stallion or Rina Sawayama
    Rap Album: RTJ4
    Country Album: Gaslighter
    Americana Album: Reunions
    Pop Album: SAWAYAMA
    Rock Album: The New Abnormal
    R&B Performance: Do It

I actually predict BTS as well, but as a BPVA filler at most.

They can use them + Gaga (and Harry/Dua fans competition) to attract audience and broadcast BPVA – and, also, that would likely mean the AOTY isn’t on the pop field, as we’ve seen when Sam Smith won on TV and Adele/Billie/Bruno (R&B) didn’t. Kacey doesn’t apply here since it was the only country album nominated+campaign, she attracted votes anyways.

BPVA does not have a committee to push BTS through for ratings, and they can’t win in a general vote. All of the best songs of Map of the Soul: 7 came out like 2 or more years ago and they didn’t have any hits this last year. Black Pink seems to be a bigger deal than BTS now.

What happened to talking unnecessary when you have talking to Taylor Swift and Beyoncé?

Also, get out this week shit that Dua Lipa is generic asf. Future Nostalgia, while doesn’t go full disco, still is a huge pop album that doesn’t sound like anything, even with the synthpop found today.

Alternative. With whatever she submits being nominated in rock song and/or performance.

Agree to disagree on Dua. That’s a huge stretch to say it doesn’t sound like anything else. It sounds exactly like everything else but the production does have a nice gloss and bounce to it. To me Dua and Harry are king and queen of the basics.

And I do like Beyonce and Taylor, but Beyonce has been doing too much since Lemonade, and Lover was weak.

BTS are not getting in. They didn’t the past two years despite being bigger, don’t see why voters should change their mind now.

In pop music. The last person to do it, while the general public noticed was Daft Punk. It’s not your average synthpop. If you can point me into someone who has retro disco, house, and synthpop, in the mainstream, that doesn’t sound like modern day dance music, by all means. Dua feels retro yet fresh.

If anyone deserves to win SOTY, it’s Shameika by Fiona Apple.

So Lana Del Rey is releasing her spoken word album in July 28th, 14 tracks produced by Jack Antonoff. I hope she finally wins something.

Thats the whole point. Producers help define pop artists. Charli XCX has AG Cook. Rina Sawayama has Clarence Clarity. Gaga has Bloodpop. Those producers helped define that sound regardless if its average. That’s why I do think Dua Lipa will be nominated come November.
