The new Grammy rules only allow 6 nominees in each category. I don’t know what exactly is the next step in case of a three-way tie, but the rules say there should be no more than 6 noms as of this year. I assume they’d do another round of voting between those 3 songs. If that’s the case, with around 100 to 200 voters approximately and with this new 6-max rule, a tie is even harder than before.

    That’s interesting. I didn’t know that.

Whether 100 or a 1000 members vote, three way ties are extremely rare. Besides the 2019 Best PDGP with 7 nominees, the only other time I think this happened was in 2003 for the Best Rock Group category.

I personally think that they should just stick with 5 nominees in all the field categories. I mean they don’t wanna create new categories because they want to be more competitive yet they are gonna allow ties in the nominees.

Also didn’t Pop became part of the (infamous and elusive) Reviewing Committee too? I’m sure if there’s a three way, they just scrap their least favourite

Honey, you girls thought Xtina would NOT get in Best Pop Duo/Group Performance two years ago.  Never underestimate the legendary Christina Aguilera.

It’s really sad if the nominees are really selected by just 100 members. In that case artists themselves and their collaborators can propel the artist to be nominated, especially if it’s a big star like Taylor, Dua, Gaga etc…

I’ve seen these numbers before (500 voters) and while it does answer the question of how we get so many ties, it seems strange to me if there are 100 voters spread around 5 nominees in pop (and perhaps the same is true for other genres), then that’s just 20 votes needed to secure a nomination.

But it would be more likely that the 2-3 biggest albums or songs get 80% of the vote, meaning the remaining two slots can be filled by artists that get just 10 votes each.

You’d think that groups like BTS and Brockhampton could get Grammy nominations every year – they just have to remember to vote for themselves and get a few of their co-writers and producers to vote for them too.

HDD numbers are probably inaccurate. If the numbers were that low, the Academy would’ve probably done a membership purge and invite many new members. But so far they’ve only been expanding membership on the basis of diversity rather than current members inactivity.

Also a good idea for the academy would be to grant membership to music critics. While these people are not music makers, they still are professionals in the industry.

Folklore and Chromatica are probably the biggest locks in BPVA. These two artists have consistently showed up in the pop categories. And Taylor never missed the album category. Under no circumstances will she miss this year.

And I feel Post Malone, Dua and Harry are also locks. The only issue is that they previously missed with successful projects before.

Midnight Sky is a fantastic song.

It also has no chance at getting in.
