Wait actually I’m confused where is Rough and Roudy Ways submitted?

If I’m not mistaken it was submitted to Americana

country had zero representation in last year’s AOTY lineup so I don’t think it’s guaranteed

especially this year when we might get a country overperformance in BNA (2-3 noms)

Think back to the 61st (2018) Grammys these were the nominations for Album of the Year:

    Golden Hour – Kacey Musgraves

Ian Fitchuk, Kacey Musgraves & Daniel Tashian, producers; Craig Alvin & Shawn Everett, engineers/mixers; Ian Fitchuk, Kacey Musgraves & Daniel Tashian, songwriters; Greg Calbi & Steve Fallone, mastering engineers

Invasion of Privacy – Cardi B

Leslie Brathwaite & Evan LaRay, engineers/mixers; Belcalis Almanzar & Jorden Thorpe, songwriters; Colin Leonard, mastering engineer

By the Way, I Forgive You – Brandi Carlile

Dave Cobb & Shooter Jennings, producers; Dave Cobb & Eddie Spear, engineers/mixers; Brandi Carlile, Phil Hanseroth & Tim Hanseroth, songwriters; Pete Lyman, mastering engineer

    Scorpion – Drake

Noel Cadastre, Noel “Gadget” Campbell & Noah Shebib, engineers/mixers; Aubrey Graham & Noah Shebib, songwriters; Chris Athens, mastering engineer

    H.E.R. – H.E.R.

Darhyl “Hey DJ” Camper Jr., David “Swagg R’Celious” Harris, H.E.R., Walter Jones & Jeff Robinson, producers; Miki Tsutsumi, engineer/mixer; Darhyl Camper Jr. & H.E.R., songwriters; Dave Kutch, mastering engineer

Beerbongs & Bentleys – Post Malone

Louis Bell & Post Malone, producers; Louis Bell & Manny Marroquin, engineers/mixers; Louis Bell & Austin Post, songwriters; Mike Bozzi, mastering engineer

    Dirty Computer – Janelle Monáe

Chuck Lightning, Janelle Monáe Robinson & Nate “Rocket” Wonder, producers; Mick Guzauski, Janelle Monáe Robinson & Nate “Rocket” Wonder, engineers/mixers; Nathaniel Irvin III, Charles Joseph II, Taylor Parks & Janelle Monáe Robinson, songwriters; Chris Gehringer, mastering engineer

Black Panther: The Album, Music From and Inspired By – (Various Artists)Kendrick Lamar, featured artist

Kendrick Duckworth & Sounwave, producers; Matt Schaeffer, engineer/mixer; Kendrick Duckworth & Mark Spears, songwriters; Mike Bozzi, mastering engineer

With this being said, I know for a fact that rap, r&b, pop, alternative, & country will be represented in the AOTY category. I’m predicting that there will be 2-3 pop slots, 2 rap slots, 1 r&b slot, 1 country slot, and 1-2 alternative slots.

That very lineup had no Rock/Alternative nominees, so that doesn’t make sense. The most recent lineup also included no Country/Americana or Rap nominees, so there is no reason to believe that the committee will feel obligated to include every genre.

I have a feeling we could see a few surprises. I can see a scenario where only 3 pop albums are represented in AOTY, one of them being Chromatica (sounds absurd but wouldn’t rule it out).

I also think we might be overestimating Lil Baby’s “The Bigger Picture” in SOTY and overestimating Brittany Howard’s Jaime.

I hope we see some surprises. Saying there’s a formula that there has to be a certain number of genres per category in gf is dumb. The noms represent the year as a whole so if that means lots of rap/lots of country that is represented. This year pop dominated, so 3 or more pop noms in gf can be expected. I am of course up for some surprises tho!

Well shocker, they lied. Roddy Ricch wasn’t eligible for BNA, and SWU and ROM both can’t be in Pop Duo/Group, so…

pretty sure for the 2019 awards they deliberately left out pop albums in favour of more r&b/rap because pop had a weak year, don’t be surprised to see 3, possibly even 4, pop albums this year as it dominated in both success and acclaim

Who says pop dominated? No one can say what genre dominated because it’s based on what you personally paid more attention to. To me, this year has been dominated by alternative. Fiona. Phoebe. Adrianne. Moses. Perfume Genius. Tame Impala.

Compare your spotify listening with me at musictaste.space (code: charismatic-celery-439)! Which one of y'all just compared with me and scored 79? That's insanely high...
