oh my fucking god. ROM was not at all a cultural reset. A ‘cultural reset’ was DSN or Blinding Lights. “Songs that were everywhere that everyone knows”
Though that’s partly true, It is not exactly. A Cultural Reset is a moment, a shift in pop culture that influenced, created hype and changed the way the public perceived the culture. Even though Rain On Me wasn’t the first female collaboration to ever exist, you can’t just sit there and say that it did not create any hype for a moment this year. The song was released during a difficult time in the industry. That’s why I praise Dua Lipa for releasing Future Nostalgia as well.
Lol this is an AOTY forum. Im going to stick to talking about the albums. Sorry.

Going off your own definition, “Rain On Me” was not a cultural reset.

Ikr, if anything ROM is just following the trend and that’s it.

Royals for sure. That was so different from other pop music. Legit all the others were good but I would add Hello, or if you don’t want another one then Rolling in the Deep because I felt like that was the bigger song. I remember people freaking out with Shake it off and blank space. They were the songs of the Year. But maybe they were just big cultural moments instead of a cultural reset.

Don’t Start Now was a pretty good cultural influence that paved the way for the new 80’s era. There weren’t really any big cultural resets this year. There were cultural moments that I guess you could put ROM in. Other examples are the first few weeks of Folklore. It was everywhere and was legitimately atop the billboard 200. Everyone talked about it. Blinding Lights was kinda one, I mean people talked about it but in all honestly it just seems like a good song that was frozen in time at the right time and has never faltered. If pop artists were to release more songs it would change

No but it’s very VERY 80’s which has been a new sound similar to Future Nostalgia. They are just different styles with the same era in time
