Taylor nation it’s going to be a long day of celebration for the 8 nominations!November 23, 2020 at 11:48 pm #1203860191
Just noticed I hadn’t updated my AOTY predictions in the prediction centre since April and looking at them, don’t think I really have to.November 23, 2020 at 11:49 pm #1203860193
Royals, because it completely changed pop for years (Todd In The Shadows, a pretty cool music critic from YouTube had a running joke about it). Old Town Road mixed country with rap in mainstream, by a black gay kid who was on stan twitter, and it’s the longest running #1 of all time. Rolling In The Deep (not Someone Like You) kickstarted the mainstream career of the biggest artist of our generation. I would say Despacito, the biggest non English song since La Macarena, which also opened the floodgates for Spanish speaking artists in America.
Thats a cultural reset. What it says in the tin, a moment that changes culture as we know it. A song being big is not a cultural reset. And 80s/disco inspired songs have been huge for years. The biggest album (not by Adele) in recent years was literally 1989.November 23, 2020 at 11:55 pm #1203860200
I’m so excited I think Folklore will be nominated in Best Engineered Album and Jack Antonoff in Producer of the year and we’ll be off to a good start in the streamNovember 23, 2020 at 11:56 pm #1203860202
Really excited for today! Hopefully my prayers work out and folklore is nominated in AOTY!November 23, 2020 at 11:56 pm #1203860204This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.November 24, 2020 at 12:00 am #1203860208
Not sure if we are talking about grammy nommed songs but if not, Gangnam Style is also a cultural reset song. Essentially any song that goes viral tbh.
I don’t think going viral is enough, but I do agree on Gangnam Style. Say So had the potential of being a cultural reset cause it has the same artist singing and doing the rap verse, but at this point the controversy has wasted it.November 24, 2020 at 12:05 am #1203860214

RIP to the hopes of Jack Antonoff being a double AOTY nominee for Folklore AND Gaslighter.
I have a suspicion The Chicks might underperform or get snubbed completely. 😭

Wait if an album gets in best engineered album does the artist get a nomination or the engineerNovember 24, 2020 at 1:20 am #1203860290
Can a new thread be startedNovember 24, 2020 at 3:06 am #1203860364
Wait if an album gets in best engineered album does the artist get a nomination or the engineer
It depends, for ‘Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical’ the award is presented to “the audio engineer(s) on the winning work, not to the artist or performer, except if the artist is also a credited engineer”.
On ‘folklore’, Taylor Swift appears to be listed as a producer, but not an engineer.
On the other hand, Beyonce has a Grammy for ‘Best Surround Sound Album’ from the 57th Grammy awards in 2015. The award “goes to the engineer, mastering engineer (if any) and producer”.
