im sorry but James Blake > Jacob Collier. James has a great range in his voice and his music is very versatile. Collier reminds me how I feel about Bruno Mars: has AMAZING tracks , but barrows too much from other artists where he feels more like a throwback than a freshing version of a nostalgic sound.

True. That’s why I said what I said.

I think he may be the H.E.R. of this year. Has the support to burst into the general field, but not particularly the support to win. His project is really niche so him just getting here was odd.

he also got a nom in r&b and in arrangement.

Black Pumas have to have connections too, like they were nominated last year in BNA basically because Colors was featured in an ad. And this year a deluxe version of their album, like they’re as successful as Lizzo to “save” their album in the main category.

All nominated artists have some type of connection. I’m sure most of these artists have lobbied a bunch behind the scenes, which led to their nominations. It’s really not a new concept and isn’t illegal either.

Connections shouldn’t play a role in who gets nominated in any categories at all, whether I like the Artist or not. HAIM and Jhené Aiko did literal campaign performances on the Grammy website. Collier is a relatively unknown R&B artist with amazing connections in the music industry. Coldplay who weren’t even thought about until this Tuesday. It’s just really frustrating. How can you have categories that are considered “the best in music”, when you haven’t branched out of people who have ties to the industry.

    Albums of the Year:

    2017: Saturation Trilogy (RU: Melodrama)
    2016: Blonde (RU: Blackstar)

    1. after hours

The only nobody is Jacob, no reviews, no sales, nothing. That’s what puzzles people. You can’t have an album nominated in AOTY  that only the people involved in the creation heard it, it is elitist.
