Unrelated but kind of. Would anybody be kind emough to tell me how awards season is shaping up to be this year? I know the Golden Hlobes are announcing nominations tomorrow finally? But when are all the main award shows gonna be televised?

Congratulations to Grammy Winners: Jazmine Sullivan, Doja Cat, SZA and Olivia Rodrigo!

    From Variety: https://variety.com/2021/music/news/grammy-awards-details-no-audience-1234897775/

Grammy Awards: Details Emerge About Rescheduled, Audience-Free Show

“The ceremony will be held in the outdoor portion of the Los Angeles Convention Center, with the show’s traditional home of the Staples Center — which is located essentially next door — as the backdrop.

There will be no audience, although a small number of media will be attending, and plans call for a live red carpet broadcast featuring performers and presenters. Most members of the media have already registered for virtual screenings.

A number of live performances are planned, but many are likely to be pre-recorded, possibly at venues other than the Convention Center.”

Well, at least it seems like the ceremony won’t be postponed again.

We would have known the winners by now had this been planned from the beginning. 😐

The Weeknd received zero nominations at the NAACP Image Awards. Coincidence?

The Weeknd received zero nominations at the NAACP Image Awards. Coincidence?

No NAACP Image Awards, loosing all his nominations at the Soul Train Awards, his music videos loosing all the VMA nominations that were decided by industry members (not the most credible award show, but an industry vote is an industry vote) + no Grammy nominations in popular vote based categories…

It’s becoming clearer that The Weeknd most likely just lacked industry support for his After Hours project. The general public said yes, but the industry seems to have gone in the opposite direction.

    A few thoughts:

    1. Has The Weeknd ever been nominated for an Image Award?

    2. Looking at the graph for the new Grammy members, I find it interesting that half of the new members are under 40. I am wondering if including younger members this year had an impact on the nominations? In particularly, AOTY with nominees like Jhene Aiko, Black Pumas, Jacob Collier just to name a few? These are inspired picks by the way for AOTY.

    Thoughts?

Yes in 2016 he was nominated in 4 categories (no wins tho) for his Beauty Behind The Madness project.

they should have done this from the get go. And only have general field nominees get tested, perform and attend if they wanted to. LA is a damn mess.

Can somebody answer the other question I asked earlier?

The Weeknd received zero nominations at the NAACP Image Awards. Coincidence?

Not really. He’s not really the NAACP taste. It took Rihanna nearly 14 years to finally win one and it wasn’t even in a competitive category. She also hardly ever got nominated. The NAACP are very “picky” on the type of Blacks they support and promote. But that’s a different topic for a more nuanced audience.
