The AOTY lineup is so weak every time I look at it. It’s honestly a 2 horse race between Dua and Taylor with the other 6 being “WTF picks” if they win. I wish 2017 was the year they had 8 slots because even if we were to choose 5 different albums to be nominated in 2017 the lineup would still be the strongest of the last 5 years.

A Moon Shaped Pool – Radiohead
Anti – Rihanna
Blackstar – David Bowie
Blonde – Frank Ocean
Coloring Book – Chance the Rapper

All could have made worthy AOTY contenders.

I don’t think there’s an active bias against Republic, they just sign more of those huge sellers/mainstream artists instead of more singer-songwriter types, which is what Grammy voters like the most since it’s “real music” (bullshit term but you get the point).

Jhene Aiko seems like a sure thing in Progressive R&B she has the passion and the sales while CXH have the acclaim.

They could be finally rewarding Jhene after a few years down the road. I think she’s going home with at least 1 Award.
