While I think Folklore is winning, the “no-hits” argument for PVA is actually not weak at all. Folklore will be the first album since Rockferry to win PVA and without a single song in the Year Hot 100. They definitely tend to go for albums with big singles.

they tend to go with Taylor Swift LOL

btw future nostalgia did not sell well in the US, and a majority of pop solo winners are at least the 1st or 2nd best selling records. Future Nostalgia is the worse sold of the pop nominees.

    Folklore AOTY

My AOTY prediction is still with folklore.

I’m sure there are a lot of people that don’t want Taylor to take her 3rd AOTY win, at least not this soon. But many of those same people aren’t ready to vote for Dua Lipa and help her sweep the big three categories.

Some of them probably don’t want any white female pop or pop-adjacent singer to get another AOTY win.

The non-folklore vote will get split several ways, with some R&B voters choosing Jhené, Rock voters going for Coldplay or Black Pumas, Jazz voters (and others) going for Jacob Collier. Some pop voters will choose Dua, but probably not enough.

Haim might pick up a few votes, but they’re too close to pop for rock/alternative purists, so their main role here might be to take some votes from Taylor or Dua, but if you’re an alternative music artist, why not vote for folklore and give Aaron Dessner a win?

Some of the technical team on folklore have strong Grammy support too. Take a look at Serban Ghenea’s Grammy history for example.

A Dua sweep could still happen, but people voted back in December when Taylor had just released her second #1 (and highly acclaimed) album that year.

I’m picking Dua for Record and Song.

Yeah it really sucks that there’s zero examples of voters loving an alt-pop album enough for it to sweep.

It’s not the same. Billie and Finneas actually brought something new to the table. Her sound sounds nothing like anything. She also had the hits.

Comparing the Billie album and Folklore is laughable. The whole industry was worshipping and rallying for Billie.

    So is folklore?

0 hits. FN was outstreaming both Evermore and Folklore combined on Spotify last week.

that’s only streams lol. pls refer to overall album units where folklore sold 5.5M with 1 single while dua moved 4.5M units with 3 singles to back it up. Who needs hits when you can smash the album charts?

That was what i was talking when I said Taylor’s sales are fueled by her fans. GP doesn’t really stream these two albums but as long as it’s being bought, it doesn’t matter.

It boils down to Taylor’s star power vs Dua’s hit songs. Both albums have critics approval, folklore was the bigger album and fn had the bigger singles.

I think Dua has the edge here.

if anything you kinda pointed folklore is consumed as a whole album not relying on hits 🤡

Future nostalgia was a complete flop on billboard 200 chart.

Honey, it’s literally above your fave’s albums on the chart.

FN’s singles were much more successful than Folklore’s (that only has 1) because they’re mainstream pop songs and are promoted. As an album, Folklore is MUCH more successful. Take the singles from each album and Folklore will easily outstream. FN’s singles carried the album’s success.
