Honey, it’s a wrap for “Rain On Me.”  YAY!  No amount of campaigning can save it.

Bold claim — After Hours is straight up not winning AOTY. You all obsess over “narratives” when making AOTY predictions…. in what world does he have a strong narrative to win? I understand the album is doing good commercially and fine critically but it just does not seem like an AOTY winner.

When the biggest album of the year wins, it’s usually because it was an inescapable cultural phenomenon: Billie last year, 1989, even Bruno to a lesser extent. Aside from “Blinding Lights” — which has a strong case for ROTY — is The Weeknd really RUNNING this year? Especially with so much high quality music coming out constantly?

I’m not buying him as the untouchable frontrunner in the way some of you are.

Current predictions for AOTY: 1. Fiona Apple – Fetch the Boult Cutters 2. The Weeknd, After Hours 3. Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia 4. Taylor Swift, Folklore 5. Post Malone, Hollywood’s Bleeding 6. The Chicks, Gaslighter 7. Roddy Rich, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial 8. Tame Impala, The Slow Rush

Same here, except that I’ve got Run the Jewels in over The Chicks since I think it will resonate with voters more. I’ve also got them in a quite different order. We do have the same winner, though. Overall, you’re definitely not delusional.

Is there any world where Phoebe Bridgers pop up in any key fields or is she too unknown?

Taylor is in. Stop arguing, stop your biases and delusions. This album is getting universal acclaim and it’s gonna sell! This album doesn’t need a hit. Exile alone will get in because it’s a gorgeous record, beautifully sung and written and Fucking BON IVER!

This is the kind of album that the academy loves, minimal songwriters and producers and 0 features except an acclaimed indie artist. She’s got pop support, country, indie, alternative and the blue ribbon will not pass on this masterpiece. Brace yourselves. Swift Haters y’all are I. For one!

Congratulations Taylor Swift on 6 Grammy Nominations

    Song of the Year: cardigan
    Pop Solo Performance: cardigan

Everything Taylor Swift releases will sell. The question is how much and for how long? The importance of having a hit is that it keeps the album on people’s lips for a long period of time. Albums that don’t have hits tend to be forgotten more quickly. The committee vote will take place 4 months from now. Taylor will need to keep undeniable momentum to get in.

I don’t know about her in the GF. I sure hope she gets in, though.

Here are my takes on Taylor’s chances in all 3 categories.

AOTY (30%): I agree with many other users here that it’s hard to imagine Taylor winning this category a 3rd time: especially when she’s had so many huge and successful albums (Speak Now, Reputation, Lover) failed to even be nominated. Yes, Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder have won 3 times, but they’re legends and that was early in the Grammy’s lifespan. Yes, “folklore” is Taylor Swift’s most acclaimed album, but it’s commercial success and overall impact will pale in comparison to Fearless and 1989, especially without a huge hit single, and that’s what the Grammy’s care about the most. I think Taylor will be nominated for sure, but the only way she wins is if “folklore” is an insane success and has a massive hit single like You Belong With Me, Shake It Off, or Blank Space; and the only way that happens is if Taylor drops “cardigan” and immediately pushes “exile”. Otherwise After Hours will win because of Black Lives Matter and the fact that it has the biggest hit song of the elegibility period, just like Supernatural, Random Access Memories, and 25; plus strong acclaim, chart success and sales. One thing I am starting to feel is that Taylor will push Fiona out of contention for the win. AOTY is currently a 3 way race but if Taylor matches or comes close to Fiona’s acclaim no one will bother to vote for the obscure indie act with 1 Grammy win over the 10 time winning megastar with better sales. I wouldn’t be surprised if by voting time the only two contenders for the win are Taylor Swift and The Weeknd: as it should be.

ROTY (0%): “exile” will get a nom here if Taylor pushes it but it has no chance at a win. Blinding Lights has this category on lock.

SOTY (55%): I’ve been saying for a while now that Blinding Lights wasn’t going to win SOTY but since The Chicks flopped I’m predicting Taylor for a win here now. This category seems like the best chance for the GF to reward Taylor since she’s massively overdue here and has so many phenomenally written songs on this album. My hope is that she submits “the last great american dynasty” here and “exile” to ROTY and Pop Duo, kind of like how she submitted Lover to SOTY and YNCCD to Pop Solo and presumably ROTY, but even if she submits “exile” here I feel her chances are strong. If for some reason she doesn’t submit either and goes with Cardigan, then she probably won’t win and I guess Blinding Lights will take both categories.

Edit: Also, for those saying Fiona will win because the industry loves her, Taylor got more love from the industry in 1 day than Fiona has for the whole year.

I would hope so, but artists like Mitski and Angel Olsen have never been nominated.

Phobe seems to be doing a lot of work to promote her album, but then I remember Mitski doing TV appearances for “Best American Girl” and she never got anything.
