Critics, media, publications basically put Kendrick as front runner followed by Lorde and Bruno. Even GD had Kendrick at first pick. I don’t know where you got those ‘everyone’.
Perhaps some in GD had Kendrick, but it was close from the start.
In the first 2-3 weeks there was a lot of wishful thinking. Critics and music fans picked the acclaimed albums, but we know that having an acclaimed album only helps in the nominations.
The other source was the betting agencies.
PaddyPower sports betting > special bets > Grammys
I’m just checking again and in the early phase of voting they had these odds.
DAMN. — Kendrick Lamar — 6/4
Melodrama — Lorde — 3/1
24K Magic — Bruno Mars — 7/2
4:44 — Jay-Z — 4/1
“Awaken, My Love!” — Childish Gambino — 6/1
But after a few weeks, Bruno moved up and became the favourite. PaddyPower also had Billie as the clear favourite for 2020.September 2, 2020 at 1:54 am #1203681527
cant wait for the submissions list (if it leaks this year lol)September 2, 2020 at 2:15 am #1203681531
Didn’t know Hip Hop artists had to make a certain style of Hip Hop to be “deserving” of an AOTY win.

So I feel like it’s clear that either After Hours, Folklore, or Fetch the Box Cutters is gonna win AOTY.
ROTY: Savage (Remix)
SOTY: Don’t Start Now
BNA: Megan Thee StallionSeptember 2, 2020 at 4:26 am #1203681556
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but could a tie happen in the AOTY category? I know it’s happened in other categories before so that’s why i’m asking.September 2, 2020 at 6:32 am #1203681635

It has never happened in AOTY. I guess on a purely theoretical level, yes, it can happen; I was checking the Grammy Rulebook and there isn’t any rule that talks about General Field ties. However, it’s almost impossible for a tie in AOTY to happen.
I will say this though, it is more likely in a lineup of 8 than a lineup of 5.September 2, 2020 at 6:52 am #1203681660
The Grammys won’t let a white female artist to win for a 3rd consecutive year. So don’t be surprise if the panel blocks Taylor from AOTY.September 2, 2020 at 7:01 am #1203681670
What does everybody think about WAP’s Grammy chances? I think it will probably be nominated for Best Rap Song or Performance. Thoughts?September 2, 2020 at 7:04 am #1203681677

I think it’s too explicit even for the rap categories
Anaconda was nominated for Best Rap Song but that wasn’t too explicit like WAP.September 2, 2020 at 7:06 am #1203681681
Now that the eligibility period is over and no one surprise dropped an album in the last week (cough Drake cough), I’m finally ready to make my first full predictions for the GF and the Pop categories. These predictions are based on what I assume the nominations will be.
Album of the Year
Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial
Legends Never Die
Record of the Year
Don’t Start Now
I Can’t Breathe
Song of the Year
Don’t Start Now
I Can’t Breathe
Best New Artist
Megan Thee Stallion
I think Lil Baby’s “The Bigger Picture” should get in over H.E.R.’s “I Can’t Breathe” soley because she has been nominated in the General Field for the past couple years. Also, I love the idea that Juice WRLD could make it into Album of the Year. I don’t think it will, but I wouldn’t be mad at it. I really don’t think Surfaces will be nominated for anything. I think Lewis Capaldi will, however, be nominated for Best New Artist and pull a Meghan Trainor.September 2, 2020 at 7:06 am #1203681684

I’m so done w/ this blocking bs. How ironic if they do this and set up Fiona for a win while nominating several other black artists. It will backfire on them but I’m not the panel.
