I wish they would go 100% not mainstream this year

i don’t think they should not go pick anything mainstream. Because Folklore and Future Nostalgia both have very high critical acclaim and have done a lot this year and they both have been more mainstream. I think they should go to who’s Album was actually the best however, which would be a win for Fiona, but if RTJ4 won that wouldn’t be bad either.

I would like seeing Charli XCX in BPVA, replacing Chromatica

Please never use this photo again; it’s been ruined by Kanye fans!

folklore is in an odd position where its chances are being overrated and underrated at the same time.

It’s 100% one of the leading frontrunners for a nomination, but I also think its chances of a win are vulnerable – for a whole list of reasons.

Let me put it this way: If Lemonade won in 2017 and DAMN won in 2018, this would be a very different conversation. Taylor would be the unquestionable frontrunner in literally any other year. That’s not to say it’s because she “deserves” it or released the best album or whatever, but folklore ticks every box the Grammys usually favours. This is the first cycle in a while where I think those politics will genuinely come into question.

I still have Abel deservedly penciled in for the AOTY win.

Does anyone else find it possible that Taylor submits betty to SOTY and ROTY? It’s being playlisted following the performance on some Country playlists and they do seem to be pushing it more than cardigan. Neither one is particularly massive but betty fits more conventionally in it’s genre and is arguably better written. I think it’s unlikely but I wouldn’t be shocked.

Yes, we need to keep an eye on “betty”. Until now we assumed “cardigan” would be the song submitted to the general field, but perhaps there was a plan for “betty” all along.

Even though cardigan flopped,it was still a #1 hit and the lyrics are better than Betty, she should submit cardigan only

Taylor pushing betty has to to do with ther plan of securing more nominations in Grammys 2021, by having nominations also in the country field.  The woman is calculated, the performance was great.

Bit of a conundrum for Harry Styles what with having both Adore You and Watermelon Sugar. I’m interested to see how he submits.

Taylor’s Betty performance was lovely. I think the country crowd will eat it up. A welcomed throwback to her early days, but with more maturity and poise. Good song.

Could be Adore You for ROTY and SOTY and Watermelon Sugar just for BPSP?

kinda bad for styles that adore you wasn‘t the bigger hit, as it‘s the better, baitier and more grammy friendly song

Could be Adore You for ROTY and SOTY and Watermelon Sugar just for BPSP?

I think the general idea people have had is that he’d submit Adore You for SOTY as it’s more the type of song that tends to get nominated there, while submitting Watermelon Sugar—the bigger hit—for ROTY and BPSP. But they could also decide Adore You is more Grammy-friendly in general and submit it for both categories in the general field. Or they could do Watermelon Sugar for both and then Adore You for BPSP. As you can see, quite a few options. It’s easier for someone like Abel or Dua who obviously will go for Blinding Lights and Don’t Start Now.

He should submit Adore You in both categories.

Watermelon Sugar is like guilty pleasure song. Submitting it could backfire.
