There will likely be some albums nominated in AOTY but snubbed in their respective genre category (we had 3 last year and 4 the year before). What albums this year will do guys think that will happen to?

I’m think Post Malone will end up in a similar situation as he did with B&B where he is nominated in AOTY but not in BPVA.

I’m predicting The Weeknd to be snubbed in R&B.

At worst, he’ll be moved to pop. Doubt he’s going to get snubbed in his genre category for After Hours especially when he got nominated for weaker albums like Starboy and BBTM.

The R&B field doesn’t have any patterns. If the R&B panel does not want to nominate The Weeknd, they do not have to nominate him. It’s that simple. It’s basically a similar situation to Drake/Scorpion in the Rap field.

Also, Starboy and BBTM had a much bigger presence on R&B radio. And they were definitely not snubbing Abel in his breakthrough era.

Fair enough. It’s a reasonable prediction.

I can’t see The Weeknd skipping Progressive R&B

I do think it’s likely he’s not in R&B song or performance, but to count out a 2x winner of the category is crazy.

    10/10:

Fetch the Bolt Cutters, After Hours, RTJ4, and What's Your Pleasure?

He’s probably submitting “Heartless” for the R&B categories. After Hours will be submitted and placed in Progressive R&B for an easy win.

weaker albums like Starboy and BBTM.

    Weaker in what sense?

    1. Both albums spent more weeks Billboard 200’s Top 10: 26 weeks for BBTM, 19 for Starboy, 16 for After Hours

    2. Both albums had more hits

    3. Both albums had significantly more Urban radio support (only one After Hours single charted on Urban radio, compared to 5 for BBTM and 5 for Starboy).

Only thing After Hours wins in is a Metacritic score and having his biggest song (a song that Urban radio completely ignored).

They dont seem to care about this ideology. R&B voters are very cut-throat. They loved Beyonce for 3 eras straight yet snubed her for her most R&B effort “4”. Going by her track record you’d think she be a shoo-in after winning Contemporary R&B album 3 consecutive times.

THe Weeknd is not safe in R&B. I have him being moved to Pop.

If he’s moved to Pop, who do you see getting cut from the nominees and who do you have winning?

Well, if The Weeknd is moved to pop he can upset Taylor. Album winners in the category tends to have a least one huge hit attached to it.
