RECORDING ACADEMY HOSTS ‘CHANGE MUSIC’ SUMMIT
The Recording Academy has partnered with Color of Change to host a virtual, industry-wide Diversity, Inclusion and Equity summit, “Change Music.” The panel will take place on Thursday, 10/1 at 12pm PT. More panelists are expected to be added over the next week.

The conversation between key biz leaders will tackle the best practices and strategic ways to drive long-term, systemic transformation within the music community. The group will discuss progress made toward closing critical diversity, equity and inclusion gaps at the Academy and within the industry, and its response to #TheShowMustBePaused demands—emphasizing the organization’s commitment to accelerating progress for Black music. You’re invited; RSVP here.

BLM will be a HUGE issue this Grammy season! Y’all were out here acting like it wasn’t. But nonetheless, I’m still predicting Taylor to win AOTY, The Weeknd to win ROTY and/or SOTY, and Megan to win BNA.

I really think Taylor Swift will be blocked. The more there is talk of diversity/BLM the less likely she is going to be nominated. The recent protests have revived the issue and The Weeknd has made himself the face of BLM advocacy in the music industry this year. The committee may want to block Taylor to make it easier for him to win.

Fiona Apple may be less likely to be a threat because she isn’t keeping a momentum.

I think the committee would block Taylor if they’re focusing on securing the right winners (which is NOT their responsibility and is not something that should be allowed to be brought up during deliberation). If they’re just focusing on diverse nominees, she wouldn’t be one of the first non-POC to be taken out.

Taylor would 100% be the 1st to be taken out of album if they want to go that route, she’s the only one that is actually a threat to win it

I feel the commitee will, in the first place, focus on diversity for nominations by emphasizing Black/POC talent across the board – that said, Post Malone is the first to be blocked, followed by Dua Lipa and some country act.

When it goes to secure winners, then Taylor Swift will be blocked and The Weeknd will have a 24K situation where there were two rap albums, a pop filler (which didn’t even make into the BPVA line-up) and an R&B album pushed by the commitee. But it’s not a guarantee though, we’ll know only when we have nominations. (Edited.)

Read what I wrote. If they’re trying to dictate and police the winners then she would likely be blocked. If they are doing what they’re supposed to be doing and just picking nominees, she wouldn’t be taken out for diversity first (people like Harry and Post would be out before her because she’s a stronger competitor).

Honey, wrong!  The first to be blocked by the blue-ribbon committee will be Taylor Swift since she’s a threat.

but they do look at who may be the winner that’s why we sheeran was blocked

They made a Latin Grammy just for that. He’ll have an Album of the Year there and a Latin win in the American one.

    like the BET Awards?

Considering he has entered the US market and global streaming charts, Latinos deserve the main spot, like everybody.
