He is a commercial artist competing with bigger albums, rarely a commercial artist wins if his album is not the biggest of the year or at least top2-3 of the year.

Does that matter anymore? As long as he has #1 album which is selling good, he can win.

They don’t award AOTY on the basis of billboard year end charts, you know.

But I think Gold-Derby created hype for The Weeknd and his album, without context. They have a theory that Grammys will reward a black artist and they will choose him, this is very lazy reading of the situation. It won’t actually go that route. Grammys care for Music, The Weeknd fanboys should calm their horses.

Tell me a memorable album track off AH, quick. Thankfully the Grammys care for music and will definitely protect the show from The Weeknd in some categories. Protect integrity of the show at all costs, that’s what the voters should think, if any of them is reading this forum. If I was in the committee I would take out AH from AOTY, so better options compete.

I think Blinding Lights, In Your Eyes, and Heartless are memorable enough, either from the song itself, the video, and the persona he brought throughout 2020.

Also, i don’t see how the Grammys should “protect” themselves from The Weeknd, that’s… a choice

I told you tell ma a memorable album Track, yet you brought the singles, that further enhances my argument,  don’t expect an album to win AOTY based on one track. It doesn’t work that way, have you heard last AOTY winners, the Grammys care if you have a full body of work, no filler stuff.

Does anyone else feel that After Hours is definitely winning AOTY (just realized how much campaigning he’s been doing) and that Folklore may not win anything? https://imageproxy.themaven.net/https%3A%2F%2Fimages.saymedia-content.com%2F.image%2FMTcxNDk4OTk3NjEyMTYwNDgz%2Fgiphy.gif

Yes I see him winning AOTY.

He has the momentum, the smash hit, good acclaim and the insane campaign that will make him win it. I see him sweeping the GF because, quite frankly, Grammy voters seem lazy.

As for Taylor, her not winning anything is a real possibility imo. Her strongest chance is Pop Vocal Album, but with The Weeknd likely submitting there, I also see him winning it, unless The Grammy voters decide to spread the wealth and give Taylor a win in this category, but again, they’re lazy so I just think The Weeknd is gonna get it

I’m not saying that The Weeknd is a lock to win, but the possibility is definitely there.

OK, so Mr.Simons is actually the so-called “Industry Insiders”…

OK, so the Mr.Simons is actually the so-called “Industry Insiders”. Welp.

I told you to tell me a memorable album track off AH, you didn’t,  you said album is definitely top 5 on the YEC, it is not,  then you attack me as a last resort. This is a Grammys discussion, we should discuss the albums, the content etc. If you can’t name a single album track off AH, that’s a problem for The Weeknd’s odds in winning the category.

    Moving on from that topic…

If there was a category for Best Pop Song, who do we think would be nominated?

    1. Blinding Lights – Belly, DaHeala, Oscar Holter, Max Martin & The Weeknd, songwriters (The Weeknd)
    2. Before You Go – Tom Barnes, Lewis Capaldi, Pete Kelleher, Ben Kohn & Plested, songwriters (Lewis Capaldi)
    3. cardigan – Aaron Dessner & Taylor Swift, songwriters (Taylor Swift)
    4. everything i wanted – Billie Eilish & Finneas O’Connell, songwriters (Billie Eilish)
    5. Circles – Louis Bell, Frank Dukes, Kaan Günesberk, Post Malone & Billy Walsh, songwriters (Post Malone)

    hasta la victoria siempre.

I think this is an opinion though, a choice

Agreed. I have the same opinion, for sure, but the fact “Blinding Lights” is about the biggest hit of this year would go to say it’s not exactly forgettable.
