Imagine if the name checking intensifies and k bye for now gets nominated and leaves out yet another deserving nominee. The meltdowns.

    The Weeknd – After Hours
    Taylor Swift – Folklore
    Lady Gaga – Chromatica
    Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia
Ariana Grande – k bye for now

Ariana has had a hit this year (ROM) and another #1 song that’s not that big of a flop which actually performed better on the charts than Cardigan.

No his last release was Senorita which was actually nominated last year. But while I’m not a fan of him, this song is one that I could see myself growing to

So does that mean The Weeknd will get 1 of 2/3 pop spots on AOTY?

There are no real “pop spots”. The committee tries to maintain some diversity of genres, but it doesn’t have any reserved places for pop.

Take a look at the 2019 awards show where the closest thing to a pop album in AOTY was “Beerbongs & Bentleys”.

I know that there is no place reserved for pop. I was referring to the attempt to balance the musical genres. before I counted After Hours as the R&B album on the list, now it will be one of the pops.
