Adore You ties the record for most weeks on the pop songs chart & will likely break the record next week. I’m this close to full-on predicting it getting in both ROTY and SOTY.

definitely a big chance especially after Natalie replied that apparently radio play plays a huge role in this

Get real!  “Adore You” is NOT happening in Record of the Year and/or Song of the Year.

radio play plays a huge role in this

This is absolutely true. Hit radio songs always have big chances to make into ROTY and SOTY, every year – especially after the expansion from 5 to 8 – there’s a couple songs which were radio hits and manage to enter in both categories.

Circles is the only other one from this eligibility period that’s tied with the record and it dropped after the 45th week but adore you seems stable enough to take on a couple more weeks.. and the TEC nomination, starting to feel like ROTY is a lock

and the TEC nomination, starting to feel like ROTY is a lock

Yep, I was going to mention this. I wouldn’t underestimate it. Anyways “Blinding Lights” is breaking this record anyway, it’s #5 in its 43rd week – 29 of which have been in the top 5.

the TEC nomination, starting to feel like ROTY is a lock

Yea I think the TEC nomination should also put to rest the thinking that Watermelon Sugar should’ve been sent to ROTY. I think Columbia made the right choice here & am really starting to think he’ll get in both categories.

If Shawn Mendes (In My Blood) was nominated for SOTY, I think “Adore You” could get a SOTY nomination at least too.

    BUMP!

Surprised the AOTY thread is so busy when these two categories are much more competitive. Is it because Taylor has no chance here? Kiii lol. Anyways:

How I’m feeling now. After finding out “Shameika” was submitted to Rock as well I was more inclined to take her out of the ROTY/SOTY nominations. But in hindsight, she deserves to still be there.

    Record of the Year:

    Shameika • Fiona Apple
    I Can’t Breathe • H.E.R
    Blinding Lights • The Weeknd
    Adore You • Harry Styles
Don’t Start Now • Dua Lipa
    Circles • Post Malone
    The Box • Roddy Ricch
    Lockdown • Anderson .Paak

    Song of the Year:

    The Bones (Maren Morris)
    Adore You (Harry Styles)
walking in the snow (Run the Jewels)
    Shameika (Fiona Apple)
    I Can’t Breathe (H.E.R)
Lose You to Love Me (Selena Gomez)
    everything I wanted (Billie Eilish)
    Blinding Lights (The Weeknd)

I’m being gutsy and predicting Selena here. I think Mattman & Robin, Julia Michaels and them have enough goodwill to their name to get a SOTY nod. And the song went #1 too.

As for Billie.. Finneas actually swept the Grammys last year winning everything he was eligible for so I can see there being some leftover love for them. And objectively speaking, it’s the best written Pop song of 2020. It’s stronger here than in Pop solo.

Will Fiona Apple be nominated across the board? I have a feeling she will be nominated in SOTY and AOTY, but not ROTY. or Maybe ROTY and AOTY, but not SOTY. I’m still on the fence. I’m more inclined to believe that her songwriting will be honored somehow, while her album will be honored for its overall production.

At this point I’m keeping her in both. I think she’s likelier in Record than Song but I’m predicting both since we can’t even have a clear cut decision on which category she’s stronger in and coupled with lazy voting she’ll end up both. I mean , don’t they discuss each category separately in the General Field anyways?

I would be pleased if “Shameika” enters both ROTY and SOTY (I even had it for both some time ago), but the first seems more likely.

    My current predictions:
    Record of the Year
    “Adore You” – Harry Styles
    “Blinding Lights” – The Weeknd
    “The Bones” – Maren Morris
    “The Box” – Roddy Ricch
    “Circles” – Post Malone
“Don’t Start Now” – Dua Lipa
    “I Can’t Breathe” – H.E.R
    “Shameika” – Fiona Apple

    Song of the Year
    “Adore You” – Harry Styles
    “Blinding Lights” – The Weeknd
    “The Bones” – Maren Morris
“The Bigger Picture” – Lil Baby
    “Cardigan” – Taylor Swift
    “I Can’t Breathe” – H.E.R
    “Stay High” – Brittany Howard
“Underdog” – Alicia Keys (yes I’m still keeping it)

I agree with Deemy’s comments regarding Finneas’ name strength, even though I don’t think neither “Lose You to Love Me” and “Everything I Wanted” are happening at all. He’s winning Song Written for Visual Media without the visual media itself anyways, and a good shot for another POTY nomination.

It would be nice if Record and Song actually split for once. “Blinding Lights” is more of a production success. The songwriting is not the best part of that song.
