BP isn’t a bad song but it isn’t a great one either. It’s a throw away track that was released to capitalize on BLM & Beyoncé’s BIK film.
“Formation” was a better / more impactful hit yet was snubbed in the R&B Field. Make it make sense.

👑Mary Wilson (1944-2021)January 7, 2021 at 10:33 pm #1203968698Where was all of this love for “Black Parade” when it debuted in the Summer time?
It flopped right down the charts despite being released during the height of BLM.
It’s apparent voters name checked Beyoncé because she’s a favorite. Chloe x Halle have pushed “Do It” all year and rightfully deserve to win. It’s a much better song.
The “flop” thing is about chart and Twitter stan reactions. That’s the same reason why I didn’t listen to it until lately. I blamed myself.
Lol “Do it” is not better than Black Parade. It’s not even the best song in Ungodly Hour imo. I’m glad Grammys did something right with this Black Parade love.

January 7, 2021 at 11:56 pm #1203968763The R&B committee purposefully snubbed H.E.R.’s “I Can’t Breathe” in favor of the BLM song performed by a much bigger artist. That’s all it was. Beyoncé is an awards show favorite no matter what. She could’ve submitted an instrumental track and still got in.
“Do It” IMO has a better hook, melody, vocal arrangement, and is all around more memorable. CxH sold tf outta this single and it’s a shame they were omitted in R&B Performance. Their field nominations should’ve been 4/4.

👑Mary Wilson (1944-2021)January 26, 2021 at 5:38 am #1204002063is it somewhat likely that ungodly hour received more votes for AOTY than chilombo but chilombo was chosen from the top 20 instead (for whatever reason)? if so, i really can see them beating chilombo is prog r&b but i find it difficult to assess how much support ungodly hour has

Prog R&B Album – ChilomboJanuary 26, 2021 at 2:36 pm #1204003746Honey, it is definitely possible that Ungodly Hour received more votes in Album of the Year than Chilombo. I am NOT convinced Jhené Aiko will win Best Progressive R&B Album. I strongly believe Chloe x Halle are winning that category. They made it hot in 2020.
A few examples in recent years:
2009 – Ne-Yo nominated for Album of the Year and Best Contemporary R&B Album. Lost to Mary J. Blige.2018 – Childish Gambino nominated for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album. Lost to The Weeknd.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 26, 2021 at 3:06 pm #1204003789Jhené Aiko could absolutely lose AOTY, but Ne-Yo and Childish Gambino lost to bigger albums than Ungodly Hour.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 26, 2021 at 4:13 pm #1204003921I think Jhené has the advantage as since Urban Contemporary came into play each and every year the biggest album (based on BB200 year end) has won that category. Excluding Pharrell/Beyoncé (but both were up for AOTY). Chilombo is Platinum I doubt Ungodly Hour has scanned gold.

I think Jhene has more passion and her album is bigger than Ungodly Hour
