Jhene needs to get up and campaign (if she cares) because Chloe x Halle can absolutely win Progressive R&B album.

Okay, I just listened to the nominees in the R&B Performance category. Here are my thoughts and predictions in order.

    1. Black Parade-Beyonce. I could not get through this song and stopped a little after 30 seconds. Song was too distracting, this is the best she could come up with? She has had better work.

    2. All I Need-Jacob Collier featuring Mahalia & Ty Dolla $ign. The best song in my opinion nominated. All three artists complemented each other, great funky vibe. If there is a song that could potentially upset, I think they could pull off it.

    3. Lightning and Thunder-Jhene Aiko & John Legend. Pleasantly surprised by the song, different vibes that complemented each other.

    4. Goat Head-Brittany Howard. Nice introspective song. Howard is a great talent with both her work in Alabama Shakes and solo.

    5. See Me-Emily King. Nice song, though it drifted off at some points.

Yeah, “Black Parade” really isn’t that great, and it’s clear that the panels are trying to pander to Beyoncé, who will probably pay them complete dust.

I do hope there’s an upset. Maybe “Black Parade” wins R&B Song and something else wins R&B Performance. R&B Song and R&B Performance have split quite a lot since the combination of the categories. But maybe that’s just wishful thinking this time around.

I’m hoping Jhene and Legend pull it off. That song is so beautiful to me.

also, Jacob is a lock for his arrangement nom. If he wins here, is there a chance he may be the big upset in album of the year?

But that goes to show Beyoncé’s pull within the industry. They love her.

    That or payola.

Who am I? You'll find out soon. Ciao, for now!

I have a good feeling that “Distance” by Yebba is winning Traditional.

How do they usually decide R&B winners? Is it popularity? Acclaim? Buzz?

Compare your spotify listening with me at musictaste.space (code: charismatic-celery-439)!

    Vote for Phoebe (#33*), Rina (#42* + #177*), and Fiona (#183*) in the Triple J Hottest 100 at https://hottest100.abc.net.au/

Let's get all three to the top!

*where their songs are expected to place as of January 8th

I’m still not buying Ledisi winning. I mean the fact that she never won despite 12 nominations is more of a disadvantage than a bonus. If there never was enough passion for her to win I doubt there’ll be this year.

Chloe X Halle are fresh, talented and are campaigning hard. Not to mention that this could be the only chance they have given how Black Parade and Chilombo are practically locked for Song and Progressive R&B. Also adding the fact that Traditional R&B has recently favoured more contemporary/new artists, I’m betting on them for the win.

I think Black Parade is a great song, but I loved all 5 nominees in R&B Performance. That being said, ”All I Need” is the most deserving nominee.

    That or payola.

so your argument is that beyoncé has paid radios to play her music (despite not even sending her music to radio anymore) and that’s why the r&b pannel chose to nominate her? puh lease

To be fair, she lost to more commercial and Grammy-friendly artists than Chloe x Halle. We always get these multiple nominees in the R&B field, but they end up losing anyway.
