Why would the Rock panel block Fiona Apple?

The last several years have shown that the committee is more interested in promoting heavy metal and hard rock

I don’t like predicting committee categories because they’re so unpredictable, but I could definitely see a scenario where Fiona misses rock nominations.

Honey, the Rock committee has blocked plenty of artists since its inception.

Bowie and Leonard Cohen won Rock Performance with Alternative songs so maybe Fiona can win too.

Well, duh! Only five to six artists can be nominated. I asked you “why would she be passed over?”

Thanks for actually answering my question, Darren.

Although, I would not be surprised if she gets into both Performance and Song, I think Fiona has a better chance to get in for Rock Song since I feel they would like to reward her songwriting there

Only one hard rock song won in the last 5 years.

Look at the nominations. The voters may not be into hard rock, but the rock committee definitely is.

I asked this in the submissions thread, but where did Hayley Williams submit her album? Alternative or Rock? And can somebody double or triple check that Big Thief didn’t submit? I was the one who said they didn’t submit because they weren’t listed in that posted source’s list of indie submissions, but maybe they made a mistake? Does anybody have their twitter still? Ugh, I just need more confirmation.

Compare your spotify listening with me at musictaste.space (code: charismatic-celery-439)! Which one of y'all just compared with me and scored 79? That's insanely high...

Remember this is a mostly new committee, only since 2018 (2019 ceremony) have they been doing things, so its a little too early to predict what they would and wouldn’t do in terms of picking Rock. Rock is Rock, as long as its Rock, it has a chance. Maybe in 3 or 4 years time we can play what they would and wouldn’t nominate.

Fiona Apple is still probably likely to get in at least one Rock category for Shameika, but it isn’t a guarantee like Gary Clark JR. was for This Land where he was pretty much a lock to get nominated and win from the beginning.

Fiona hasn’t been nominated for a track since Paper Bag, but I think the passion for the album will carry Shameika to a double nom in the rock categories.

November 24th for the Grammy Nominations, that is actually sooner than usual, I am somewhat surprised.

I will put my final predictions a day or two before and go into massive detail for each category including Metal.

Metal performance is so unpredictable. Anybody could be nominated. Even Mayhem, the infamous black metal band whose members burned a lot of churches in Norway, could receive his first nomination.

It really is unpredictable, however Black Metal rarely tends to get recognised, the only Black Metal bands I can think of that were nominated were Cradle Of Filth and Deafheaven since I would call Meshuggan more Doom Metal.
