Honey, “Good 4 U” should and will NOT go for Record of the Year.  “Drivers License” is the more memorable song.  Her label will submit that in all eligible categories.

‘good 4 u’ has a shot at out lasting ‘drivers license’ chart wise even without being at number one for multiple weeks it seems pretty stable to stay there till fall. But ‘drivers license’ is the biggest song this year and broke records. They’ll be stupid if they submit ‘good 4 u’ in ROTY.

Honey, Billie Eilish will sell cute the first couple of weeks.  Then, sales will decline.  The bitch needs hits to substain sales.

“Levitating” is tracking better for the year-end Hot 100 and will eclipse “Drivers License” in SPS before long.

This is not the current reality. Moreover the impact of DL will remain in the voters’ memory much more than a simple dance song from last year that is on top because of radio and playlist

‘Happier Than Ever’ just broke the Apple Music record for the most pre-added album of all time on that platform! https://twitter.com/zanelowe/status/1419691347137765376

Nice, but to be fair, it has been on pre-order for nearly 3 months now. It only took After Hours a month to create the record last year and Apple Music users grew 40 – 50% since.

Not trying to be a spoilsport, just my thinking. By my personal estimation, if Billie took a break after EIW and only released a commercially optimised lead single 3-5 weeks to the album’s release, I would have expected 400k – 1m debut! 25, Damn, Lemonade all used the release strategy, it seems to work well after a remarkable era. Billie had that.

The singles released so far feel like just records she personally wanted, it seems marketing personnel had no input. I don’t see Single-defining features such as

Punchlines – (“I’m the bad guy”, “Haters gonna hate, shake it off”, “Thank you, next”, “Hello, its me”, “I want it, I got it”, “You want me, I want you baby”)

Distinguishing sound – (Bad Guy, Uptown Funk, Single Ladies, E.T, Old Town Road, Crazy In Love, Work).

Using keywords popular with your target audience even (Red Lobster, Driver’s License).

Buzzworthy narrative, iconic music video. Y’all know know what I mean already. As usual, I’ve written too much 🙊.

I understand that these might not be necessary for a song’s success. We’ve all seen aggressive promo push a single, and good songs become sleeper hits long term (When The Party Is Over, Lovely, IDGAF). I hope she’s got plans to save the era as the long pre-order period could rather cause second week slump.

    …damn I’m still writing..k bye 🏃🏿

Levitating started charting in late 2020 and it is basically on top10 of Hot 100 the whole 2021 until now, it is big on all metrics (radio/streaming/digital sales).

It has now spent 29 weeks top10, which is just 3 weeks from breaking the record of longest charting female (lead) song on Top10.

    1. LeAnn Rimes – “How Do I Live” – 32 weeks
    2. Billie Eilish – “Bad Guy” – 30 weeks
    3. Dua Lipa – “Levitating” – 29 weeks

I think it would’ve been wiser for Billie to take a little more time off to develop her songwriting and herself as an artist like Lorde and even other mainstream pop acts did instead of jumping right onto the next album cycle so soon after the multi Grammys triumph.

Now the Billie fatigue is kind of starting to have an impact on how her character is perceived, but we’re still to see how that factor plays out in her next album’s critical reception, sales and Grammy noms.

    FYC: 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards

Billie Eilish: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Pop Vocal Album

Arlo Parks: Best Alternative Music Album

    Jazmine Sullivan: Best R&B Album

Tyler, The Creator: Best Rap Album
