so two roty for cardi? she is def in with wap. what a year she had i hope she release her album after giving birth for next years grammys
“WAP” is not eligible, and probably will stay that way since she’s apparently not releasing until months after her baby is born. “Up” is, but that was not half the moment “WAP” was.August 10, 2021 at 7:01 am #1204389893
I know this was expected, but Beyoncé has confirmed to Harper’s Bazaar that new music is on the way. At this point I’m hoping for a surprise release before the end of this eligibility period so she won’t lose AOTY to Adele again next year.August 10, 2021 at 8:39 am #1204389985
If Beyoncé releases a full blown Pop album, she’s winning AOTY.
YES. Beyoncé is about to mimic a Tina Turner-esque career resurgence. Once she officially goes full blown Pop, she’s about to get not just hits comparable to what Tina had in the 80s but general field wins similar to her. (with Tina Turner winning ROTY for her song “What’s Love Got To With It”)August 10, 2021 at 8:47 am #1204390005
I really don’t think WAP is a lock in ROTYAugust 10, 2021 at 8:48 am #1204390010

I really hope she doesn’t, we got enough of Beyoncé over performing at the Grammys last yearAugust 10, 2021 at 9:31 am #1204390054
wow i did not know that wap is not eligible?? thought they did not submit it last year to wait this yearAugust 10, 2021 at 9:53 am #1204390126

They did not submit last year.
However, since the song was released in the last grammy cycle, it is not eligible unless it’s part of an album released during the current eligibility period.
And since Cardi apparently stated that her album will only come after her baby is born, that seems unlikely.August 10, 2021 at 10:01 am #1204390148
Thought I’d do something different to usual and post a few artists and what I think they/their teams will submit to each category (not necessarily nominated, but a submission).
AOTY + BPVA – Happier Than Ever
ROTY – either Happier Than Ever or Therefore I Am
SOTY – Your Power
BPSP – Therefore I Am
BPDGP + Best Song Written For Visual Media – Lo Vas A Olvidar (with Rosalía)
Best Rock Performance – Happier Than Ever (unless they decide to submit for BPSP instead)
Best Music Film – Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter To Los Angeles
Best Music Video – Your Power (or Happier Than Ever)
AOTY + BPVA – Sour
ROTY + SOTY + BPSP – Drivers Licence
Best Rock Performance – good 4 u (although the song is more pop-rock so not sure if they’ll even consider submitting)
Best Song Written For Visual Media – The Rose Song
Best Music Video – Good 4 U
(with Olivia, I guess it could go either way and we could see good 4 u nominated in ROTY/SOTY but drivers licence feels like the safer bet)
ROTY + SOTY + Best R&B Performance + Best R&B Song + Best Music Video – Leave The Door Open
BPDGP – Skate
(If the album is out by 30th September, it’ll definitely be submitted and nominated in AOTY and Traditional R&B)
AOTY + Best R&B Progressive Album – Back Of My Mind
ROTY + Best Song Written For Visual Media – Fight For You
SOTY – Damage
Best R&B Performance – Come Through (ft. Chris Brown)
Best R&B Song – Damage
AOTY + BPVA – Positions
ROTY + SOTY + BPSP + Best Music Video – Positions (ideally she’d submit POV to BPSP though)
BPDGP – 34+35 Remix (ft. Doja Cat & Megan Thee Stallion)
Best R&B Performance – My Hair
Best Music Film – excuse me, i love you
AOTY + BPVA – Justice
ROTY + SOTY + BPDGP – Peaches (may be submitted to R&B Performance instead with Stay W/ The Kid Laroi being submitted to BPDGP instead)
BPSP – Anyone
Best Music Video – Holy (ft. Chance The Rapper)
AOTY + BPVA – Planet Her (or it could go to Progressive R&B)
ROTY + SOTY + BPDGP + Best Music Video – Kiss Me More (ft. SZA)
BPSP – Need To Know
Best Rap Performance – Ain’t Shit
Megan Thee Stallion:
AOTY + Best Rap Album – Good News
ROTY + Best Rap Performance – Body
Best Rap Song + Best Music Video – Thot Shit
AOTY + BPVA – Evermore
ROTY + SOTY + BPSP + Best Music Video – Willow
BPDGP – No Body, No Crime (with HAIM)
Best Music Film – Folklore: The Long Pond Studio SessionsAugust 10, 2021 at 10:04 am #1204390157
The Best Rap Album does seem like one of the most interesting in a while… there’s so many contenders already. Nas, J. Cole, Tyler & Megan feel locked. But there’s many other contenders too – Kid Cudi, Big Sean, DMX…August 10, 2021 at 10:40 am #1204390216
I Doubt a completely pop album would give Beyonce AOTY.
I really don’t see core R&B and Rap voters being enthusiastic about such an album if Silk Sonic releases. There’s also no evidence that she is loved by Rock and Country voters enough to counter the large pop votes she’d be loosing to Billie, Olivia etc.
I think an ingenious genre blurring Album (retro-pop + retro-r&b) that passes as pop would be more ideal if she still wants AOTY. She practically owns R&B and it can be assumed that their loyalty ensures her constant nominations in the GF and significantly increased Megan’s votes. Not appeasing them would be unwise.August 10, 2021 at 11:02 am #1204390274
I don’t think Megan is locked in a single rap category. Good News was meh + abandoned, Thot Shit is probably her best written song of the last year but she abandoned that one too. I actually feel like On Me (Remix) is her best shot at a nomination. Not now
