LTDO has always been the ROTY/SOTY frontrunner and this only further cements that.
I genuinely believe the only reason it’s so underestimated here is because of how boring of a winner it would be.

2022/2023 ROTY winners might be the same as 2016/2017
2016/2022: Bruno Mars
2017/2023: AdeleOctober 8, 2021 at 12:58 pm #1204509504
Fiona, Brittany and maybe, just maybe The Weeknd (despite getting zero nods) are the only artists folks can reasonably say were blocked from the GF last year and that if they would have been nominated, perhaps the results would have been different. Not y’all mentioning Tame Impala, Harry Styles, Lady Gaga. Stop.
The Weeknd was not blocked. None of his pop submissions made it. The rest I agree with, I would have loved to see BH nominated because Jaime
- is stellar. And of course Fiona, that goes without saying.
and I also think we should re-think the word “block”. Chromatica might’ve made the top 20, but it was not chosen to be part of the 8 final nominees.
Blocked artists/albums/songs are the ones who made the top 8 and did not end in the final list.October 8, 2021 at 1:01 pm #1204509523
One thing I really didn’t like was Brittany submitting Jaime to Alternative instead of Rock or Contemporary Blues where she easily would’ve won. Did she not know Fiona’s first album in around eight years (with a damn 10 from Pitchfork) was competing as well???October 8, 2021 at 1:40 pm #1204509593
I think Jaime’s was alternative through and through. it’s very genre-bending and it was a logical placement specially her band winning that category before.October 8, 2021 at 1:52 pm #1204509616
Coming for #2!!
While it feels like a mistake to release on Swift’s day, Bruno particularly has never been the type to have lofty debuts, his longevity is however insane, I doubt either artist or their label/management is worried. Andy is not really a chart-topper so I’m only mentioning Bruno.
We all saw D&H debut at 3 with meagre 65k and how it has been certified 7x platinum, spent the most weeks on Hot 200 last decade and is the most-streamed album from 2010. Only about 5 other albums from the 2010s has been certified as much.
UJ debuted with less than 200k too but has been certified 6x platinum so far, only 10 other albums earned up to 6x last decade. It is also the 3rd most-streamed album of 2012. 24K magic never reached No1 but ranked 2nd on billboard the sequel year-end with its 9 tracks.
Honestly, I am not worried about him. The last time I did was when Uptown Funk was initially released. Look how big it became, 8.1m US digital sales + 1.9B US streams according to Nielsen end of decade report, Billboard insists on 12m pure sales, that’s 20x+ platinum eitherway next time it would be certified. I don’t expect the new album’s debut to match Swift’s at all but I anticipate a more solid chart run and another No1 single if Adele takes it Easy on Them.October 8, 2021 at 2:45 pm #1204509740

Actually what if this is the reason Taylor moved her date? We all assumed it was because of Adele. What if it’s because she doesn’t want to potentially block Bruno? It’s all but certain that with physical copies she’ll probably do 250-300k.
She is blocking Bruno thoughOctober 8, 2021 at 2:59 pm #1204509766
I think Brandi Carlile will get in for SOTY for Right on Time. She has gotten in twice in the past couple years, for “The Joke” and the Tanya Tucker song “Bring my Flowers Now”. She just won Best Country Song with the Highwomen. They really respect her as a songwriter. Carlile strategically released the single right before the deadline. And her album dropped the day after the deadline. Not now
