Normally I make fun of some of y’all for saying this, but holy crap this is a weak ass year. There are no apparent front runners, the chart toppers are totally forgettable and generic and there aren’t any critically acclaimed juggernauts like: Future Nostalgia, Punisher, Fetch the Bolt Cutters and folklore.

    FYC: Grammys 2022

    AOTY: evermore
    ROTY, SOTY, Pop Solo: willow
    Pop Album: evermore
Pop Duo: evermore w Bon Iver
    Rap Song/ Melodic Rap: closure
    Dance Recording: long story short
    Remix Recording: Love Story (elvira)
Country Solo/Country Song: cowboy like me
Country Duo: You All Over Me w Marren Morris
    American Roots Perf/Song: ivy
    Gospel Per: epiphany (live)
Rock Perf/Song: ‘tis the damn season
    Music Video: willow
    Music Film: folklore studio sessions

Doja Cat is not the type of artist to be nominated for SOTY. Amongst R&B gals, H.E.R., SZA and Jazmine Sullivan seem far more likely.

But we don’t have to worry about Dr. Luke winning because she’ll never win ROTY or SOTY.

This year, BPD/GP and R&B Performance are the only categories in which she stands a very, very slight chance.

    FYC:

Record of the Year: Hit Different by SZA ft. Pharrell Williams & co.
Song of the Year: Good Days by SZA ft. Jacob Collier

The winner should come out late in the eligibility period like folklore.

Well, this time last year we didn’t even dream about folklore. There’s still time for surprises.

Does anybody have songs or albums that they think are going to be advantaged by the abolishing of committees?

The new Coldplay song is a dive back into their more catchy pop songs. It could be a radio hit for sure and I see it in Pop Duo / Group for sure. It’s a Max Martin song too.

For all intents and purposes the “year” for music kinda just started and is about to heat up. Artists are still working their release strategies around Covid and wanting to make sure their material is still fresh for when touring ramps up next year.

Now that Summer is around the corner the bigger artists are gearing up. J.Cole is dropping his highly anticipated album next week and in June/July I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Drake, Catdi B, SZA, Migos, Mary J Blidge, and MAYBE Adele all release projects

Honey, give it up!  Positions is NOT happening in Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year.
