Lizzo’s competition was not really that strong. I don’t see it for “Plastic,” not after that Record of the Year bid for GMG. Plus, it went to #1 on Adult R&B.
I mean that’s a valid argument but Beyoncé also got in everywhere. It’s either of the two for sure but I wouldn’t underestimate Beyoncé considering how beloved Renaissance is.

Beyoncé was expected, though. Plus, she consistently gets these nominations. Mary got into six categories, including AOTY/ROTY (sure, you can use the ABC argument, but why her exactly? in all of those categories, at that?), and this was after being snubbed for years. I’d say R&B Album and Traditional R&B are a given, since she’s not happening in the marquee cats, obviously. The only categories that are question marks for me are R&B Performance and Song.

No she’s likely last
ReplyCopy URLNovember 27, 2022 at 5:44 am #1205168024Cuff It will be reaching top 15 next chart update (top 10 without the Christmas songs).
If they let it grow on radio this Christmas period, then launch the video in January along with Renaissance visuals and website sales, it could reach No 1.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 27, 2022 at 6:01 am #1205168035Get real! Jazmine Sullivan is NOT likely last in any of her 3 nominations. She could easily repeat in Best R&B Performance. Also wouldn’t count her out in Best R&B Song. There is still passion for her.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 27, 2022 at 6:07 am #1205168038Jazmine’s voice on “Round Midnight” is amazing, so the nomination is well deserved. I think her weight last year carried over this year, and I think her name helped the song get in at the last minute. So, I think this is her least likely category she’d upset in.

R&B voters haven’t given Chris Brown a win since 2012, almost 11 years ago. He only has one win to date. Y’all are really overestimating traditional R&B voters liking Chris. These are the same voters that voted for “Say So” over a top five hit “No Guidance.” This is after “No Guidance” practically swept the Soul Train Awards. The R&B voters do not care about Chris. Otherwise, he would have easily gotten additional nominations in the R&B field. And stop using the Soul Train Awards to determine winners in every category. They only really work in certain scenarios.

Visiting Pop/Rap voters + alphabetical order privilege. Same reason why Peaches was nominated last year.
