Jazmine Sullivan achieves her second No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart as “Hurt Me So Good” tops the list dated Dec. 10. Though the singer-songwriter posted four top 10 hits on the format from 2008 through 2015, she only claimed her first No. 1 last year, with “Pick Up Your Feelings,” which ruled the list for two weeks.

“Need U Bad” deserved.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 27, 2022 at 6:51 pm #1205211337Actually, I kinda want Mary to go 4/4. That would be a Gag. Lets give our legends their flowers because she is under rewarded in R&B. Just like Mariah.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 8, 2023 at 11:51 pm #1205227870Honey, I also think Mary J. Blige and Anderson .Paak are winning Best R&B Performance. I’d prefer another Jazmine Sullivan win in that category.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 8, 2023 at 11:54 pm #1205227873Mary’s ceiling is 2 Grammys (most likely traditional album and traditional performance). Bey’s ceiling is 4 Grammys (2 Dance and 2 R&B). I think some people are over thinking it… Bey isn’t going home without at least 3. If Mary was gonna be a huge threat she would have won more than the Certified Soul award (more like an honorary award) at Soul Train imo.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 9, 2023 at 12:42 am #1205227923Get real! Mary J. Blige’s ceiling is NOT 2 Grammys. Mary won 3 R&B Grammys in 2007. Beyoncé is vulnerable in Best R&B Performance. Bey will win Best R&B Song. Also, for the billionth time, there is no correlation between Grammy Awards and Soul Train Awards.

Yeah, a lot of what’s been talked about here is wishful thinking on some of these posters part. Beyoncé is winning R&B song and possibly R&B Performance too. I can’t wait for the Grammys to air so we can stop with the cap.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 9, 2023 at 5:09 am #1205228098Bey won R&B performance for Black Parade lol. She is more dominant than ever in the R&B field and will win at least 2 of the 3 nominations.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 9, 2023 at 5:35 am #1205228138While I agree that Beyoncé can win two or even all three awards in the R&B field, I don’t think the “Black Parade” take is a good one. That competition was fairly weak. Her biggest competition was a white guy with no previous R&B recognition and Jhené Aiko. I’d say Mary J. Blige, Jazmine Sullivan and Muni Long are all bigger competition than they were.
And I don’t think that Beyoncé is “bigger than ever in the R&B field.” Certainly not bigger than she was during Dangerously in Love, I Am… Sasha Fierce or Beyoncé. Plus, she has lost R&B categories she should have easily won (R&B Song for “Black Parade” and Self Titled in Urban Contemporary for example). Don’t underestimate Jazmine Sullivan in Performance. Her song was at the top of the Adult R&B Charts right before voting and she just came off a banner year at the Grammys.
And I agree with Gucci. The Soul Train Awards have been overstated. The only noticeable but unofficial correlation is the AOTY overlap. Beyond that, there is really not that much correlation.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 9, 2023 at 6:57 am #1205228241People were waiting on pins and needles for the Soul Train Awards here in this very thread because they thought Mary J Blige would sweep, and then there’d be some conjecture/narrative about how she’d also be sweeping the R&B field at the Grammys. When that didn’t happen, all of a sudden the Soul Train Awards didn’t matter anymore and wasn’t helpful for predictions.
And I think we all know who actually did win big at the Soul Train Awards. The transparency.

Not sure who you’re referring to, but I’ve only contended that the AOTY overlap was a thing. And if it weren’t for me, it wouldn’t be discussed here.
Never have I said that the Soul Train Awards guarantees anything, and I’ve brought up examples where it didn’t. Seems like you only post when it’s time to defend Beyoncé when she doesn’t need to be defended. If the Soul Train Awards truly mattered in every scenario, then you’d acknowledge that Jazmine Sullivan is a threat in Performance, but you’re not doing that right now for obvious reasons.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 9, 2023 at 7:08 am #1205228268R&B Voters throw curve balls all the time. Beyoncé being the commercial fave doesn’t mean anything. Anderson Paak & Mary J Blige are pure Bait in R&B Perf. A. Paak hasn’t lost this category btw. This is resembling Best R&B Song with “Better Than I Imagine” in 2021. Beyoncé can easily get passed over in R&B Performance. I’d say R&B Song is a sure thing for her.
Jazmine can also win R&B Performance & Song as well. Hurt Me So Good has been dominating on Adult R&B for a while. Since there isn’t no Silk Sonic in the way they could feel the urge to reward her even more now. The truth of the matter is that Beyoncé has even more competition this time. It won’t be a walk in the park for her.
Muni Long finally getting recognition as a songwriter could put her at edge for R&B Song as well.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 9, 2023 at 7:21 am #1205228289A hit dog will holler.
Anyway, I think Beyoncé is taking a plurality of this field. I’m sure if MJB swept the Soul Train Awards like some people thought she would, they’d be using that to support their MJB R&B field sweep theory/argument. But she didn’t, so now the Soul Train Awards don’t matter lol
