I think the song and performance categories are between Beyonce and Muni Long. Jazmine Sullivan was in her biggest moment last year. I don’t think she has the same power with this song. Wouldn’t be surprised if she wins, but this is my impression now. Mary is taking Trad. Performance and Album. Steve is obviously winning Progressive Album.

Well I was right about Jazmine Sullivan!

Would really love if Muni pulls off the impossible and take R&B performance. That was a great way to have a mainstream breakthrough with a traditional R&B song.

    If I was a voter:

R&B Performance – Hrs & Hrs (Muni Long)
Traditional R&B Performance – Do 4 Love (Snoh Aalegra)
R&B Song – Cuff It (Beyoncé)
R&B Album – Watch The Sun (PJ Morton)
Progressive R&B Album – Red Balloon (Tank and the Bangas)

    Omg she did it??!!!

I mean, H.E.R. did it in her first year. She beat out The Carters, Toni Braxton and Lalah Hathaway, so it’s not impossible.

    SHE DID IT !

R&B Performance and Traditional are interesting. Strong lineups the both of them. Either its 2 different winners or Beyonce just sweeps.

    OOP!

The R&B were all amazing. Happy Robert beat Mary, her album was whack.

All I can say is that I loved getting my predictions wrong on the R&B field. So happy for Plastic Off The Sofa, Gemini Rights and Black Radio III. Would’ve been my choices to win.

Also very proud of Muni Long, but Virgo’s Groove would be the best R&B Performance win since Sade’s No Ordinary Love

I thought Virgo’s Groove had a better shot than POTS but Hrs and Hrs made perfect sense since it was the R&B hit. Soul Train told everything that Mary was basically a non-threatening entity and I think there was way too much hopedicting and confidence when it came to her. That R&B Album loss was rough and shouldn’t have happened (I didn’t grieve over her since Good Morning Gorgeous was middle-of-the-road as an album). Robert Glasper continues to show his respect

I’d never feel elated to see an icon like Mary lose a Grammy. Especially after scoring her 1st AOTY nod. She’ll definitely be back in the future.

Unfortunate that Mary was showered with so many nominations but zero wins. But I was glad she was in the conversation again.

Muni Long’s win in R&B Performance was well-deserved. If the R&B voters really like you, your song or your album, they will vote regardless.

I always felt that Robert Glasper would be the spoiler if Mary faltered, so I don’t find his win all that shocking. He pulled off an upset against Beyoncé in R&B Song just a couple of years ago, and won surprisingly in R&B Album years ago. He has only lost one time in R&B Album for his Black Radio series but even when he lost, he still won for its track. He has to be at 7 or 8 Grammys now, right?

Yes I agree but I also agree that Robert Glasper had the better album and Muni Long had the better R&B song (though NOT better than Virgos Groove which is the true musical highlight on Renaissance)

Muni’s win was well deserved! She brought that “old thang” back to this category of the style of song that was won many times before!

Good Morning Gorgeous was an okay album, not her best work but it definitely had some great songs. I agree that she’ll be back with another shot at a Grammy. The R&B voters are just too tricky at times. This would’ve been perfect if My Life II got this treatment.
