Still not buying Brandi Carlile, but if there was an upset, then wouldn’t she be the beneficiary? Most big albums don’t win, so Bad Bunny is completely out. The industry is probably split between Beyoncé and Adele, and well, I don’t think Harry is making a clean sweep (because that’s the only way I see him winning AOTY, tbh). He just doesn’t feel like the type. Everybody else is just there. Brandi keeps getting nominated, so like H.E.R., she is bound to win an award. Don’t know. I would hate for her to be attacked or affected by a backlash. I don’t think Adele or her fans care at this point.

She’s been getting all these big nominations at some point, it’s bound to happen. She’s the only Americana album nominated I think that makes her at least top 4.

Yes, but I mean, by The Hive and Black Twitter. The thinkpieces… And for what it worth, the Internet was in an uproar when Beck beat out Beyoncé.
Also, imagine an all-white winner list for the general field.

They’ll get over it and Beyoncé will still be at the next ceremony front row because she desperately wants the win and the validation. If she insists on submitting every year then why care?

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 2, 2023 at 7:32 pm #1205281762Unpopular opinion: anonymous ballot articles are obvious click-bait & lack credibility.

Their votes are all over the place but two out of five voters chose AIW as ROTY, and one picked it as SOTY.
Voter 2
Song of the year: “‘As It Was’ — regardless of the visuals, regardless of his audience, regardless of any of it, it’s a good song. But ‘About Damn Time” is also a fun song. ‘ABCDFU’ is a cute song, too — but do I think it’s song of the year because it was on TikTok eighty bajillion times? I don’t know. ‘Easy on Me’ is no different from every other Adele ballad. ‘Bad Habit’ is a good song, but I don’t think that was song of the year. I don’t care about the Taylor Swift song.”
Voter 3
Record of the year: “ ‘As It Was’ is the most culturally impactful and representative of what our generation consumes — a perfectly well-formed pop song. It was too omnipresent to not be record of the year.
Voter 5: Record of the year: “I voted for ‘As It Was.’ It’s a pretty standard pop song, but it’s catchy and similar to what I would want to put out, so that influenced me.

You can forget all about an Adele sweep! She was barely mentioned by any of the five.

This would be interesting considering that every year Twitter bandwagon hates on H.E.R. for “buying nominations using her daddy’s credit card” but never bats an eye at Brandi Carlile, who has an even better track record with nominations than the R&B prodigy.
At this point they should be familiar with Brandi Carlile’s name, but they’re too busy hating on black women to pay attention at other Grammy darlings.
In the end of the day, both Brandi Carlile & H.E.R. are amazing and the internet’s opinion is irrelevant.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 2, 2023 at 9:06 pm #1205281826It’s nice to see an actual Grammy voter articulate what I have been saying about Easy on me. Just how many times are they going to give a sweep for a ballad that sounds the same to all her other previous ballads.
That song should have been called Lazy on me for the lack of variation, innovation, creativity.
