I’m skeptical about Bey winning AOTY, Brandi is a greater threat than Adele to me. But as of now I put Bey as frontrunner and Brandi as runner-up lol.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 3, 2023 at 1:15 am #1205281910I didn’t put a blind eye, i actually sympatized if some people offended by Kendrick used slurs or deadnamed his cousin but dwelling on that and saying Kendrick shouldn’t win AOTY or any GF award because of this song is misinterpreting his intentions and not a good look. This is Grammys by the way, they just nominate or award problematic people every year.
yeah, they do. But I don’t think we, as individuals with our own thoughts and opinions, should ignore this problematic situations.
This whole thing goes back to how the rap/hip-hop demographic deals with homophobia. And the across the board nominations just proved that they really don’t care.
As said before, Kendrick deserves his flowers. If this was any of his previous work, it would be a hell of a winner. DAMN even got a Pulitzer, which is no easy feat.
Lowkey though, that year I’d still pick Melodrama for AOTY cause that redord is out of this world.I wouldn’t mind some wins for “The Heart Part 5”. Great song. But awarding the album would be (imo) the academy as a whole saying they don’t give a damn about homophobia, even though his intentions with that song were kindhearted.

February 3, 2023 at 1:17 am #1205281912Jazz – Adele
Classical – Adele
Rap – Kendrick
R&B – Beyonce or Mary J.
Country – Brandi
Rock – Brandi
Latin – Bad Bunny
Dance/ Electronic – Beyonce
Pop – Adele or Harry
Americana – Brandi
Its a battle between Adele & Brandi.
You said this perfectly for Beyoncé to win she needs some votes from the pop and rap voters at least 30% each. Mary really hurt her chances so she desperately need at least 90% of votes from R&B and dance voters. Now is it gonna be enough to beat Adele and Brandie? That is the battle she is facing.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 3, 2023 at 1:21 am #1205281919Brandi has really gone up in the AOTY odds and it’s odd to say the least. As far as I know, she didn’t have a spectacular campaign or anything and neither is she being pushed by critics or media recently. Vote splitting is the only thing going for her and that’s a huge grey area too. I think americana as a block is a bit overstated too. I just can’t see her pulling more votes than Beyonce, Adele, Harry or even Kendrick.
It isn’t comparable to Jon Batiste last year because she doesn’t have the diversity of his nominations and Jon Batiste wasn’t competing with Adele or Beyoncé. He was competing with a covers album, a Taylor swift B side and 5 pop albums. 3 of them were also from newish artists. The competition isn’t comparable at all.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 3, 2023 at 1:56 am #1205281941the media and twitter will care a lot if bey loses AOTY but outside of that no-one really gives a shit. Lets be real. People will get pissed on social media and big publications will report about it and thinkpieces will get released slating the Recording Academy but it really isn’t gonna change anything. The Grammys will always be regarded the most prestigious music awards show just like the Oscars for movies. I think ppl need to stop making predictions based on what the perception and backlash will be and focus more on the actual voters perception.

SOTY: Easy On Me – Adele
BNA: Anitta
BPSP: Easy On Me – Adele
BPVA: 30 – Adele
BPDG: Don‘t Shut Me Down – ABBA
BMV: All Too Well – Taylor Swift

lolFebruary 3, 2023 at 7:38 am #1205282165Carlile feels like Sturgill Simpson of this year:
Low-profile country/americana singer-songwriter, who many people also thought could pull an upset in 2017 in a Beyoncé vs. Adele split AOTY race.In the end, Adele still won effortlessly…
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 3, 2023 at 7:39 am #1205282167I find it kind of funny that if by some miracle Kendrick were to win AOTY, on his FOURTH at bat it would be considered a huge upset.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 3, 2023 at 7:54 am #1205282206we all discuss about “music taste” but the GoldDerby Music awards is garbage. Worst than AMA + VMA

I think anyone going into Sunday with the mindset that Adele is sweeping with a lukewarm album just because she’s Adele is being overzealous. Last time she won against Beyoncé, she practically told voters they made a mistake — and that was with a much bigger, better album than 30.

February 3, 2023 at 7:58 am #120528221925 is NOT a better album than 30, but yes, it was much bigger.

Breaking down which genre voters will vote for whom seems pointless always, but especially this year. It’s not like you have to vote for the artist “representing” your field. Particularly, I’m almost confident Beyoncé will take the Pop vote. (It’s not like Renaissance wouldn’t have been nominated there had it been considered a Pop album, and there are plenty of songs there that appeal to Pop sensibilities.)
Plus, Beyoncé isn’t a new or underground artist who these voters need to seek out. Just because you’re a member of the Rock/Jazz/Classical/Rap/etc. branch doesn’t mean you haven’t heard of Beyoncé, and it’s more than likely that you’ve heard Renaissance.
