So what will be the excuses/explanations if Beyoncé loses AOTY again? Apparently, there seems to be some Brandi supporters out there.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 3, 2023 at 8:09 am #1205282236Beyoncé will get most of the Pop votes this year as well as some Rap and R&B. I think this year is her best shot at a win if she’s ever going to. It’s really a close race between her, Harry, Brandi and Adele. I don’t think anybody else will be a factor. If it was a 5 nominee lineup it would be those 4 and maybe Kendrick.
Thankfully there are 10 nominees this year for her because if it was just those 5, Adele would win easy.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 3, 2023 at 8:21 am #1205282257If Brandi wins, it’s just one more underwhelming prize for an album that didn’t make any kind of impact whatsoever and no one talked about it or even will remember a year from now.
And we’ll keep thinking: what would Beyoncé have to do to win? She has the sales, she has the buzz, she has the narrative, she has the hits, she has the acclaim… It looks really bad giving the award to anyone else.

Anyone but Beyoncé would be an insane, out of touch win. Renaissance was the defining album of the last year, and there’s absolutely no reason to give this award to anyone else. I remember in 2021, people here were predicting that voters would go with that obscure Jacob Collier album over Folklore, which is what this is reminiscent of. Hopefully we (people with class and good taste) come out on top again.

February 3, 2023 at 9:01 am #1205282330The Grammys have a pattern of going for singer-songwriter records compared to dance club music. You could argue Bruno swept with a dance record with 24k magic but that has a much more classic throwback sound they love, the same with Adele. And a lot of them really do care about credits. As much as everyone keeps harping on about how they need to stop being snobby that is not the reality.
I wouldn’t call it a pattern, especially considering Billie’s first album (experimental dark-pop), 1989 (blockbuster pop record) and Random Access memories (electronic funk disco etc.) have all won in the last decade.
It’s not like Renaissance is inaccessible; Sure, it has elements of dance/house music, but it’s very much house music that’s palatable to the average listener who knows nothing about house music.

February 3, 2023 at 9:06 am #1205282346Kudos to those not predicting an Adele sweep. I think we may get a repeat of 2021 (sharing the wealth)
I have this feeling too. I predict either Beyonce or Brandi will snatch most awards.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 3, 2023 at 9:34 am #1205282411Bad Bunny had the AOTY, nonstop hits everywhere (his music was inescapable), had the sales, acclaim, longevity to back it up all for an non english act, which is extremely rare

None of the Jacob Collier predictors wanted him to win. And they were right about folklore not having that much support.

Speak on it. Renaissance is the epitome of letting the music speak for itself.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 3, 2023 at 10:44 am #1205282517I think anyone going into Sunday with the mindset that Adele is sweeping with a lukewarm album just because she’s Adele is being overzealous. Last time she won against Beyoncé, she practically told voters they made a mistake — and that was with a much bigger, better album than 30.
Well the critics disagree with you because 30 has the same metacritic score of Folklore. So now 88 is lukewarm? Swifties are something else.

Beyoncé ain’t taking most of the pop votes when there are Harry and Adele right there
If someone has a chance to beat Adele this year, that’s Harry, not Beyoncé

All that cheekiness. I hope you’d return with this account if you miss cause it’s a pretty tight race.
Also, I’m certain there were far more “Folklore” predictions than “Djesse”, and “Future Nostagia” was the second most predicted that cycle.

Are we gonna keep pretending Folklore didn’t win AOTY cuz it was set up to or are we finally gonna admit the truth? Taylor’s lucky the BRP erased Fiona, Harry, Gaga etc from the category getting her those votes, and they could have easily got Abel nominated in the GF despite no pop support but they decided to nominate a bunch of white non factors to fill the category and get her that easy win, otherwise she would have probably ended up losing that category like she did with all of her other categories
As for Beyoncé, she should have won in 2015 and specially in 2017, but not this year, but this is just my opion if she wins that would be nice despite deserving it more in other years
