Exactly. People keep blaming Beyonce not winning Album of the year because of racism. She doesn’t win because girl doesn’t write or produce her music. She relies on 1000s of writers and producers on all her albums.
Unlike Adele, Taylor Swift or Billie who are truly songwriters, Beyonce isn’t and that’s why she’s relegated to the recycled categories that her husband buys for her to fill her broken ego for not winning the big ones. The Academy doesn’t give a damn about giving her Album of the year to please the public when they have wasted 30 Grammys on her.

As for the women you listed. If you gave them all a live mic, we know Bey is outsinging them easily. When the topic of musical talent comes up, the music snobs never seem to actually mention VOCAL ability. Interesting.

It is necessary to mention vocals though? I mean, if she is becoming be most awarded artist ever and that’s not because of songwriting/producing then there must be something else… vocals, of course, and she definitely knows how to deliver a performance.
That’s undeniable. But if you can’t slightly see that this writing/producing thing as a weak point then there’s no point in discussing anything.
ReplyCopy URLJagged Little Pill deserved ALBUM OF THE YEAR IN 1996!. I’m a big Mariah fan! Looking at it now .. I could see why she lost so bad. She did have tough competition. The Joni Mitchell win over her is a eye roll though.
For me, it’s the Chieftains’ win for pop collaboration when “One Sweet Day” (16-week chart-topper) was right there.

And if so it’s so hypocritical to say that someone doesn’t deserve to take an award due to the numbers of writers. That didn’t stop Bruno Mars to take SOTY back in 2016.

AOTY should be awarded to the best album in the category. That’s it. No other factors. It’s not that hard.It’s not only us who say she doesn’t deserve AOTY, people in the industry also have that perception. Remember Diane Warren posting on her twitter “How can there be 24 writers on a song?”. People voting care about the number of writers. One of the anonymous ballots mentions that. She might win tonight, but she’ll have less votes than she would with an album with just a few writers.

Exactly. Trust me it’ll be hard for her to win traditional voters. She might win the diversity voters Grammy started recruiting to help her win album of the year, but not the traditional voters who thinks she’s a joke for using 24 writers on a song. I mean you really need to be that in need to use 24 writers lol

Okay, I’ll answer that, though it could feel like I don’t like her, but I do. If the number of writers/producers don’t bother you, okay. For me it doesn’t reeeally matter, but it does harm her chances. If there’s 10 writers on a song sorry, but I don’t see how Beyonce could have written more than a comma and how can you sustain a narrative of an album being personal/intimate considering that. Btw there’s songs on Renaissence with much more than 10 writers (yes, that excluding sample credits).
And yes, all that matters. You can see all AOTY winners and see if any have many writers/producers. So yes I guess when it comes down to artistry, the number of writers/producers do matter.
Anyway, today she’ll become the most awarded artist and she deserves that cause she’s not only a good vocalist/performer but also managed to stay relevant for sooo many years. No one besides this forum or her fans will really know if she has won it or not. To be an AOTY winner is something to be said, but if you don’t have it no one will rotulate you as non-AOTY winner, so let go!
