All Too Well not making it into Oscars shortlist is really bad for Taylor’s campaign after all the effort she has put into it.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 21, 2022 at 3:58 pm #1205205265ATW was never gonna make the shortlist, an Oscar is exponentially more difficult to win than a Grammy and more so for anything pop.
Strong films from reputable directors easily miss, how was an extended young lover-themed music video which was directed by a pop artist for a residue track from a catalogue album gonna get in?
ReplyCopy URLDecember 21, 2022 at 4:05 pm #1205205288Honey, only delusional Swifties thought “All Too Well” would make the Oscar shortlist. Everyone else sane knew it was NOT happening.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 21, 2022 at 5:30 pm #1205205390Taylor is really pushing this auteur narrative huh
I knew it would backfire. I like Taylor but ATW shouldn’t have been considered for an Oscar. It’s a glorified music video.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 23, 2022 at 12:44 pm #1205207674She campaigned for ATW, but that is what people do for Oscars. And, it is what she NEEDED to do in order to get her foot in the door of the film festivals, speaking with directors, etc. She got Oscar buzz for ATW but overall this was a long endgame of getting into conversations with other directors, making connections. That worked perfectly. I’m sure she is disappointed it didn’t make the short list but overall the benefit here is the long haul.

Everything she did with that silly campaign for a Music Video was bought and paid for. None of it was genuine and none of it helped her “get her foot in the door” as she was laughed at before she was even able to enter the door.
Taylor did not get “Oscar buzz” outside of the PR articles her team paid for. Stop this nonsense. Her not even being shortlisted is proof of that.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 31, 2022 at 8:04 pm #1205217516ATW is terrible even for a music video let alone a short film. If TS had any talent as a director other artists would be asking her to direct their videos.

“As It Was” is expected to re-enter the top 10 on next week’s Billboard Hot 100, in its 40th week on the chart.

January 3, 2023 at 1:29 pm #1205219746I do think there’s something to be said about AIW having a resurgence affecting whether it wins SOTY/ROTY. If the logic around Unholy most likely winning BPDGP is due to it peaking at the right time for voters, and being the most visible hit in the category, it’s something to consider with AIW. In recent years there’s been a pattern with decency bias impacting winners, and when none of the big contenders seem to be campaigning super hard this season then voters are probably going to go for what’s most visible to them at the time.
I don’t think thar negates Adele’s long-standing Grammy darling status of course but I can’t see Harry going empty handed this year. Where he wins is still up for debate.
