I feel like CUFF IT would’ve been a better ROTY submission instead of BMS
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 9, 2023 at 7:51 am #1205228345Fingers crossed for ‘About Damn Time’. ‘As it was’, ‘Break My Soul’, and ‘Easy on Me’ are too predictable. Had ‘Woman’ been released in 2022 it would’ve had a better shot. The rest are just filler noms.
Woman would’ve been filler any year. Kiss Me More or Say So also never stood a chance at winning ROTY.
Dance Pop is General Field poison, specially containing portions of Pop-rap.
Not even Don’t Start Now managed to win ROTY despite being the biggest hit nominated and seeming appealing to a broader audience than other Dance Pop tracks that had been nominated in the past.

Exactly. Billie was crowned ‘The New Grammy Darling’ at that point. Imo, ‘Happier than Ever’ would’ve won ROTY and/or SOTY had Silk Sonic not been nominated.

CUFF IT is a massive BANGER, but a song about bussing and getting fucked up at night would never win ROTY at the Grammys.
BREAK MY SOUL was crafted clean, family friendly and “watered down” specifically so it would get massive airplay and consequently stand a chance at winning ROTY-SOTY. BREAK MY SOUL is definitely much more competitive against Easy On Me than Formation was against Hello.
Plus, with a #1 in hands, submitting a then album track would’ve been a bad idea.
Also, it’s unknown whether submitting Halo in ROTY instead of Single Ladies hurt Beyoncé’s chances of winning both categories, but it probably did…

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 10, 2023 at 12:48 pm #1205231056I think if Lizzo upsets Adele or Harry it will be in Pop Solo. It’s easier to come out on top in a 5 nominee lineup than 10. A limited voting pool as well. The general field is usually very obvious. And obviously Adele is winning.

it’s bizarre to think that if Single Ladies was submitted to ROTY and BMV Beyoncé might’ve left that night with 8 wins. But water under the bridge i guess.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 26, 2023 at 4:40 am #1205268192If I were a voter, I would pick Break My Soul as the Record of the Year winner. Considering this category recognizes the work of producers, engineers and mixers, this song is sonically the most interesting across the nominees. It also represents the last year’s trend of massive use of samples. And I think nobody expected song like this from Beyoncé. I don’t think Break My Soul has a chance against Easy On Me and As It Was, but it would be wonderful winner. I would compare it to Everything I Wanted win, because it wasn’t the biggest hit of the lineup, but was sonically the most innovative.

Bizzare that she submitted “Sweet Dreams” to music video . Like what was she. Thinking ??? Lol
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 26, 2023 at 6:31 am #1205268312Break My Soul is probably her best shot at a general category win since Single Ladies. Black Parade and Formation weren’t it.
