Nicki’s music isn’t their cup of tea. She’s not a Grammy caliber kinda artist. Plus, there’s always competition for her. It also doesn’t help to have an unlikeable reputation.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 16, 2023 at 6:59 am #1205353850the Grammys don’t really treat Nicki unfairly though. she’s had steep competition in basically all her noms and she lost bna due to vote split
The Super Freaky Girl moment last year?
ReplyCopy URLMarch 16, 2023 at 8:24 am #1205353950Nicki was always against super hard competition in in all her nominations till 2016, and was shut out in 2019 with Queen due to a combination of reasons including but not limited to:
- How messy the rollout
- The general attitude towards her at the time, some self inflicted some not
- None of her singles where super successful this era with the exception of maybe Chun-Li, but Rap Performance & Rap Song where super competitive that year, with Drake’s God’s Plan & Anderson & Kendrick tying.
- Her best option for a nomination was Rap Album, which had a weaker line up, with Cardi B being the most commerically successful nominee. Miller obviously had a lot of support behind him and Pusha T had a very good album as well. Nipsey had a pretty well received album but it wasn’t the most commerically viable and the voting/ceremony happen before his death, however he had a good fanbase at the time. Last but not least Travis Scott obviously tying Cardi B for commerical success. Nicki is stationed as a commerical rapper. She can make non-commerical music but her stance in the music industry requires her to pull in the numbers, something Nicki herself seems to care a lot about. Queen just didn’t get that, and with the positive but average reviews about the album being good but too bloated made her not get in a solid 5 person line-up
- As for Super Freaky Girl, personally I wasn’t a fan of that song. It was obvious that although Nicki says time and time again she dislikes her pop music, she wanted a pop hit and called up Dr. Luke and had one of the most blatant samples of 2022 (First Class and Big Energy being the others). Was Suoer Freaky Girl fun and catchy? yes. Should it have been nominated for a grammy? no, and neither should have Big Energy when there were better picks to be nominated.
I think that Nicki deserves a grammy. I am not a barb and do not like Nicki’s attitude towards people who don’t even mention her. She made a very good argument about the Big Energy/Super Freaky Girl situation but the argument got lost when she got into it with Latto. She should have gotten more nominations between 2010-2017 and might have won had her competition not be so steep. However, after looking at the 2019 rap categories, she wasn’t getting in, but tbh she was probably 6th-10th in voting for some categories. She needs to make at least somewhat commerically successful music with decent acclaim and stay away from anyone who can cause a scandal (Dr. Luke) as she already married a walking scandal. If the Kim Petras collab is true, then she is not following this path.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 16, 2023 at 11:55 am #1205354341Not even somewhat, it NEEDS to be commercially successful and critically acclaimed for Grammy voters to even look for her. I just hope she plays her cards right because one false move with the songs and the Grammy voters will be looking to put her in the pop field once again, but she’s not making a full pop-rap album I’m sure. Her next album needs to be her magnum opus and be shoved down everyone’s throat all of 2023; along with good features, amazing production, great replay value and an excellent rollout. However even with all of that, the Grammys could still snub Nicki and it’s ultimately up to committee to whom they want to nominate. Hopefully she gets a nom this year, a GF one to be exact since it would be her first, but I do wonder what Nicki has up her sleeve this year and so far I don’t think Red Ruby Da Sleeze is being considered by anyone right now, but it will be on the album she said.

People keep saying it’s her attitude but I would have an attitude as well if stuff kept happening behind the scenes and because I don’t sit in the corner and tolerate the BS and actually speak out and defend myself, I am being painted as aggressive, unlikable, etc.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 17, 2023 at 6:18 am #1205355214I actually think Coi may have a shot with a nomination for Players. It all depends on what else is released this year.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 17, 2023 at 6:38 am #1205355234So, does that mean that the Grammys treated her unfairly, or she just had stiff competition? Two different things. The only category I think Nicki should have arguably won was Best New Artist, but Bon Iver was the critics choice that year and J Cole probably took a lot of much needed rap votes from Nicki that year.
she had stiff competition is what im saying, i dont think she was treated unfairly. all of her rap noms were the same year as two of the most impactful and acclaimed hip-hop albums of the past decade (mbdtf & tpab).
ReplyCopy URLMarch 17, 2023 at 8:20 pm #1205356016Yes, Nicki has had some stiff competition but let’s not oversell it.
Best New Artist – Nah
She has not one rap album worthy of a win.
Her best shots were Moment for life or maybe Truffle Butter the other noms were just better songs and some were better songs and hits.
Anaconda, Bang bang, Only and My chick bad were not winning grammy’s regardless of stiff competition.
She was going up against Coldplay, Say something and Iggy/Katy too much splitting for Bang bang which is an atrocious song. Coldplay and xtina are the only competition here.
Anaconda is a rehash of a classic and it was reductive
My chick bad did not have stiff competition other than the winners. Big boi, Plies and Jeezy are not competitive
Only is just a hit song. Competition or not it wasn’t going to do anything
Only and my chick bad are just hits songs
Had Feelin myself with Beyonce been nominated that could have been a good one to win as well.
The problem now is as the DJ Ebro said: she burned so many bridges and didn’t built relationships. All award shows or even awards at a job have a political aspect to them. Even if she were to come out with a Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album and finally make a classic album they’ll just votesplit her or give her one for a pop feature after many more female rappers get grammys.
What’s worse is she feels validated by a grammy nom/possible win and by now people should appreciate the political awards but feel validated by having fans support your tours/merch/songs and such.

I see what you’re saying but saying her musically wasn’t worthy is kinda silly because most music she puts out has been way better than what these new female rappers are putting out and they are just handing them out to them just because. That alone shows that there is an agenda.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 18, 2023 at 9:44 am #1205356365Honey, if Nicki Minaj ever wants to win a Grammy (NOT happening), she needs to step her pussy up (better albums, better songs, etc.).
ReplyCopy URLMarch 18, 2023 at 12:56 pm #1205356477Megan Thee Stallion was on the red carpet for the Vanity Fair Oscars party and in an interview, she said a new album is coming. I’m interested to see what it’s like. Good News and Traumazine didn’t get into Rap Album, despite Megan getting three wins in 2021 and a Thot Shit nomination in 2022.

Well, in my opinion, she had about two submissions (Moment for life/Feelin myself) that could have won but most of her submissions were hits but not amazing options
My point was hiding behind she has stiff competition isn’t fully accurate.
So far, Cardi, Doja and Meg thee stallion have grammy’s unless we are counting Lizzo. Hardly handing them out. Each win is justified and Cardi and Doja could have won at least one or two more (Need to know/Say so/I like it/Be careful).
Cardi, Meg, Latto, Glorilla, Rapsody have also been snubbed and lost so handing them out just because seems far fetch and the agenda aspect gives theory vibes.
Cardi could have won for Bodak, I like it, Be careful. Meg could have one for Thot ish, Latto could have won for Big energy but didn’t. Saweetie, Remy and Doja lost out on noms and got snubbed too.
I think this year will be jam packed with tons of submissions. I think Doja, Meg, Cardi, Nicki and some newbies will release and a few big male hip hop rappers as well. I wonder if a few of them plan to release an album after the cutoff since it’ll be packed for this eligibility period.

The competition is definitely steep this year. As a Nicki fan, I personally hope she stops submitting to the organization to save herself and her fans the upset. We’ll see.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 18, 2023 at 5:31 pm #1205356711the way all of the big 4 female rappers are releasing albums this year is crazy… im expecting doja and cardi as a lock for all 4 rap categories and megan/nicki as potential noms, we’ll have to see how their albums perform
