I knew This Is America would win ROTY/SOTY! Ayeee. Well deserved. Golden Hour winning AOTY is boring but oh well, not surprised. Happy for Cardi & H.E.R., poor SZA though.

And I was right about Shallow not being strong enough to sweep the general field + Gaga’s track record with the Grammys (in the past 7-8 years) not helping her chances. The hype of ASIB enabled her to gain back the Pop voters – as shown by the random Joanne name-check in Pop Solo, a category that had always been won by huge hits thus far – and that’s about it. As others said I don’t see her winning anything next year, especially when the competition is likely to be tougher.

Overall, I think it was a great show.

Alicia proved that her veteran status was not handed to her. One of my favorite moments was her on the pianos.

Most people have seen “All The Stars” performed live, and it did not have a great reception. It’s not unprofessional or disrespectful. He doesn’t owe the Oscars anything.

Kendrick isn’t performing at the Oscars? That’s a shame. True, he doesn’t owe the Oscars anything but it’s too bad since it’s not just about him. Black Panther was culturally groundbreaking, became a worldwide smash hit and landed a Best Picture nomination. With no acting nods, his performance would have been a great way to honour and represent the film during the ceremony.

I do wonder though, that, if he was cleaning up the awards, would he be resisting? I doubt it.

Maybe not. There’s no reason for him to attend these awards if he has no chance in hell. Sounds arrogant, but it’s realistic.

As much as I love the message, This Is America is NOT a great song. I’m sorry. I hate saying this as a Black person. But if I look at the previous winners of Song & Record, it fits. Most winners in those categories are not good. Adele, although a weak live singer, she was the only deserving winner of Song & Record this decade for me, and I am NOT a fan of hers.

Best New Artist has the biggest question mark for me. Really???

On paper, Dua Lipa looks like the typical BNA winner, but I can’t think of a scenario where a lot of musicians voted for her. She’s just way too basic and a borderline one-hit wonder.

Dua Lipa was the most well-known of the field and pretty much had two eligibility cycles to gain prominence with voters. That 1-2-3 punch of “New Rules”/”One Kiss”/”Electricity” is hard to deny. The R&B girls coalesced their voting bloc. The dudes couldn’t amass multiple branches’ support with middling support from rock and country, respectively (though watch out for Greta Van Fleet in coming years). Bebe not being able to win in County Duo/Group for the massive “Meant to Be” is telling. I think most H.E.R. predictions centered about her BNA nod, which usually works out except when it doesn’t. In hindsight, we probably should have seen this win coming for months.

Those last two songs weren’t really that popular.

‘One Kiss’ was a massive hit everywhere except America.

Lady Gaga’s acceptance speech was faker than Kim Kardashian’s ass.

They were “popular” enough to win BNA.

I think she’s a worthy Best New artist winner. Solid album, has the hits, has the acclaim, writes her own music and is undeniably gorgeous. When was the last time a Pop/Dance artist won BNA? I loved when she won! Also shes Huge worldwide. Hits dont revolve around the billboard charts only.

    undeniably gorgeous.

Don’t see how that has anything to do with BNA…

And Dua Lipa fits the same quota Alessia Cara and Meghan Trainor did back when they won, and they were just as underwhelming as Dua. I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up irrelevant like both of them.

Well I think Goldderby’s posters know the difference between SOTY and ROTY better than actual voters. I’m happy Gambino won though, I just wouldn’t have voted for it in SOTY.

I know I should ignore that, but a weak live singer? She sounds the same live and in the record, many times even better live.
