All Kacey needed was to get Country’s undivided attention, and she did. She completely swept the Country field, which led to her AOTY win. Even though Kacey does fit the same mold as most AOTY winners, she deserves her win. It’ll probably be a long time before a country artist wins AOTY again, tbh. Country has had a tough road in the general field as well.

That was Country’s 4th win in AoTY. The record is as shitty as rap’s.

I wonder what genre will win next year. So far, we don’t even have an interesting release announced. And albums released late usually don’t do that well.

I would like R&B to take it eventually. It doesn’t even get credit for Lauryn’s win.

R&B might take it again with Bruno’s next album. I wonder if the committee will shut him out in AoTY. He’ll probably be Taylor Swift’ed.

Unless he outdoes 24K Magic then yeah they’ll intentionally shut him out.

You know I’m not talking about Bruno’s brand of R&B.

And Bruno’s album has to be a huge success for him to be considered so soon again.

Beyoncé would be someone to watch out for. But considering she is even losing weight in the R&B field and is almost passed her prime, I’m not sure that she would be the one to do it.

It’ll probably be some fresher R&B artists that the Grammys embrace a lot. I can even see H.E.R. with an album or two down the line. She shows potential.

Not a lot of backlash for kacey’s AOY win. I like it. I think people knew she was a good fit winner (or they just didn’t care who won this year)

It’s February… hmmm wonder which artist will own this year in music and have enormous success. Besides Ariana. And also excited for new artists to gain popularity that we don’t even know yet. The future is exciting

I wish Dirty Computer had a nom for Urban Contemporary Album cause it could’ve easily won that.

    Sunday’s ceremony averaged 19.9M viewers, up 100k from 2018’s 19.8M.

Very interesting article on SLATE correlating the traditional Village Voice’s Pazz & Jop poll with the the Grammy winners.

“For the First Time Ever, the Grammys and the Critics Agreed.
How did this happen?! And just how rare is this? We break it down.”

    https://slate.com/culture/2019/02/grammys-pazz-jop-critics-poll-kacey-musgraves-childish-gambino.html

Crazy that they finally aligned after 46 years of history!

Kacey probably didn’t deserve the win IMO, but her speech was nice. Gaga’s speech was decent. I don’t know why people hate on her acting surprised and emotional. But maybe she really is?

Why are you so obsessed with popularity?

People “hate” on Gaga’s fake reactions because they’re obviously staged. She’s always heavily favored to win according to everyone and she’s invested on awards recognition. She knows she’s winning. That fake crying every single time she wins something she was expected to couldn’t be more contrived.

And even with This is America having that kind of video, it was universally praised. It wasn’t controversial in a damaging way.

And despite it being politically charged, it was really a very surface-level, agreeable kind of protest song. “Gun violence is bad”? That’s not exactly an unpalatable message.

I’m not obsessed with popularity. Kacey is too new and hardly overdue to win AoTY. Black Panther deserved it, and would’ve been perceived much better by the hip-hop community than This Is America winning. Because the latter seems to be more of a win for the political left in America, than Hip-Hop overdue artists.

For Gaga, if she’s always favored to win and ends up losing sometimes, maybe she doesn’t trust Golderby? So I don’t blame her for being surprised and emotional? Maybe she doesn’t even read predictions. Because honestly, if I were to trust these predictions that told me i was going to win BA at the Globes, the Oscar two years ago for TIHTY etc, I’d be disappointed every show.

She’s sweeping the awards with Shallow and this year she had GF noms for the first time since BTW. I really don’t buy it…

Black Panther didn’t deserve to win. If they were going to reward popularity, they would choose Post, Drake or Cardi. If they went for quality, Kacey or Janelle. If they wanted a mix of both, Cardi. BP was just okay in sales and critical reception for someone of Kendrick’s stature. Besides, had he won for this, he wouldn’t win for his next(and probably bigger and better) album. Kendrick deserves better than an “overdue AOTY win” for his least meaningful record. I’d be frustrated if I was him and I won, honestly.
