I also thought it was strange to wait a month in between the first single and the album release. I know Adele can get away with a more traditional layout. But it just makes sense for the absolute biggest selling artists nowadays to release it all at once or at least wait no more than a week between the first single/video and the album.

She’s destroying it on Apple music, vinyl and sales so Spotify is not a problem

Most of her fans could be AM listeners because she’s dominating over there. I don’t think Spotify is gonna effect her.

I really like 30 by Adele – close to really loving it. I’ve listened to the record, front to back, at least five times and each listen pulls me in just a little more.

Strangers by Nature – what an interesting opening track that I didn’t really connect with until probably my third listen. Now it makes sense why this track starts the album. It’s like Adele is telling us up front that this is going to be a different Adele listen. And this records take a little time.

Easy on Me – How I wish I would have waited until the album’s release before I listened to this track. It’s in my top 3 on this album and I’m surprised I haven’t tired of it. Perfect song to follow Strangers. “I had no time to choose, what I chose to do.” I get that lyric so much. My neighbors probably think I’m nuts because I sit on my front porch swing listing to “Easy on Me” and doing that hand movement that Adele does in the video as I swing. Love, love this song.

My Little Love – The problem song for me. Let me start by saying how much I love how her voice sings and how the music plays on this track. The problem is those little voice overs between her and her son. Interesting at first, but on repeated listens it wears down. Worst is the ending when Adele pretty much breaks down – it is her art and I appreciate it, but I feel like I’m hiding in her bedroom closet listening to her bawling her eyes out into her pillow and it’s a little unsettling. I would love a version without the voice over because there’s a really nice rhythm and blues song here.

Cry Your Heart Out – thank god we have an upbeat song to follow My Little Love. Another slow, heart wrenching ballad would have been devastating. It’s a nice song, upbeat with pretty sad lyrics but there’s promise in her words. A good cry always helps me feel better when I’ve been through heartbreak. Cool track.

Oh My God – After those irritating sounds that start the song, I found myself tapping my foot and bopping my head especially on the hook. It hooked me.

Can I Get It – I see this one as a radio single. It sounds like the music my teenage nieces listen to – top hit radio stuff. Another nice, uptempo hook with nice, sometimes whispering vocals by Adele. Could do without the whistling – but my nieces like it. I see it as a single release, although I would prefer the next track to be the single release after “Easy on Me.”

I Drink Wine – The most interesting title that she never sings in the song. Definitely in my top three, if not the top, on this album. Love the chorus, but it’s the words that make this one of my all time Adele songs. “I hope I learn to get over myself. Stop trying to be somebody else.”

All Night Parking – I would love for Adele to sing an album of blues standards. I felt like this song would fit right into an Erykah Badu record. I really love this one and it’s perfect to start off the second half of the record. Perfect. “That’s why I dream about you.. all night long.” Another interesting title. Beautiful, Adele.

Women Like Me – Yes, to the strumming guitar start. “I want to be lost in you, but not in this way.” I like her confidence in these lyrics. Like, damn I’m the best thing for you, so why can’t you see that. Another top track.

Hold On – I’m writing this on Sunday morning and I feel like I’m in church listening to this beautiful song. Uplifting and sparse and one of the best vocals on the record. A lot of times with Adele, her voice keeps me listening even when the song itself doesn’t measure up if that makes sense. With Hold Me, she gives both the voice and song. A standing ovation song.

To Be Loved – If we had an old school vinyl record with just two sides instead of the four sides, three songs on each side vinyl records we have now, side two would be played over and over on my record player. What I wrote about “Hold On” I can mirror here. Such an amazing vocal on an amazing song. “Let it be known, that I tried.” I think on my sixth listen is when I went from really liking to loving this record. Realizing Adele 30 is a special album.

Love is a Game – Perfect closer. I hope, if she does go on tour and I get the chance to see her, that she includes this in her encore set. I don’t know why this one reminds me of a classic Judy Garland song here, but it just does. “I can’t take another defeat. The next time will be the ending of me.”

I would like to say this about these bonus tracks that are only available on CD at Target. Couldn’t they be offered as bonus tracks on ITunes? I would pay extra to hear them, because lot of folks don’t have CD players. I just want to hear more Adele from the 30 recording sessions. I love this record!

    My best, so far:

Film - The Power of the Dog
    Actor - Benedict Cumberbatch
    Actress - Tessa Thompson
    Supporting Actor - Kodi Smit-McPhee
    Supporting Actress - Ruth Negga

Interesting. I do have a vinyl record player and I’ve thought about buying the vinyl version. But, I don’t like having to get up after every third song to flip or change the album. I still may buy it on vinyl just to have a copy because I’ve fallen in love with 30.

    My best, so far:

Film - The Power of the Dog
    Actor - Benedict Cumberbatch
    Actress - Tessa Thompson
    Supporting Actor - Kodi Smit-McPhee
    Supporting Actress - Ruth Negga

30 did over 44 million streams on Spotify for the second day. Not too bad of a drop.

So after two days of 30, now I can properly evaluate the album:
    1. Strangers By Nature – 7/10: This is an interesting start of a really good album. I like the movie theme feel to it and the voice effects on it. The vocal performance reminds a lot of “Daydreamer” from 19. I don’t see myself revisiting this much, but it feels like a decent intro to an album like this.
    2. My Little Love – 7.5/10: I really like the R&B feel to this one, but I think the voice notes really drag it down. It picks up after the whole talking and crying where it’s just the music. Feels like an R&B album track from 2000s, and I like that.
    3. Easy on Me – 8/10: Grower and makes perfect sense why this was the first single. Feels much better in the context of the album.
    4. Cry Your Heart Out – 6.5/10: This is a decent song but probably my least favorite song on the album. It gives another ’60s feel meets Reggae vibe.
    5. Oh My God – 8/10: Very different from Adele and I can see it doing well, but with the right video treatment. Adele seems to always go with simplicity with her videos, but a big pop song like this needs something bigger and interesting.
    6. Can I Get It – 7.5/10: Another very different offering from Adele. The whole Country/Pop rock sound going into a fun pop feel works for her. Not necessarily the best Adele can come up with, but her voice fits this style as well. It may come off too much like an Ed Sheeran upbeat song. I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing. It depends on who you ask…
    7. I Drink Wine – 7.5/10: This is much better than what was offered on One Night Only. I actually like the Elton John feel to it. It wouldn’t work as a single, but it holds weight here on the album.
    8. All Night Parking – 9.5/10: This is “only” an interlude and it’s one of the most interesting pieces of work that Adele has ever offered. The trap/jazz feel with Adele’s vocals is what I keep going back to.
    9. Woman Like Me – 8/10: This seems like one of the least favorites on everyone else’s list, but I love it. It reminds me of her version of “Lovesong” but with a more R&B feel to it. “Complacency is the worst trait to have, are you crazy? You ain’t never had, ain’t never had a woman like me” is one of the more memorable lyric on the album.
    10. Hold On – 8.5/10: I love the build up here and has such a good vibe. The main issue I have is the part where she hits the high note during the buildup. I thought it was a vocal error on One Night Only but she does it here as well, so it’s intentional. However, I feel like the crack takes away from that particular part of the song, but it’s still a damn good song.
    11. To Be Loved – 10/10: My absolutely favorite song on this album. I’ve read complaints about it sounding a bit overwrought, but I live for this type of vocal, at least on this. It reminds me of “And I Am Telling You (I’m Not Going).” A more subtle vocal wouldn’t have made this work. It’s extremely dramatic but in a good way. Not sure how Adele would be able to pull it off in front of a live audience, but this is probably her best vocal offering ever.
    12. Love Is a Game: 7.5/10: This makes for a decent closer, like “Strangers By Nature” is to an intro. It’s like one of the closers to a popular ’70s movie. I can’t quite put my finger on an example, but it’s there.

    Overall Rating: 8.0

Very strong album. Not perfect, but it also didn’t need to be. People wanted something different from Adele, and she gave it you. Not sure it will do in the long run after the six year wait, but she should be happy with the artistic growth here. I hate that we will probably have to wait another six years for an album.

So far, “Hold On” is my favorite cut on the album. It is an album that I will sit, for a minute. There’s so many gems on here.

It’s decent to me but I don’t really have much of an urge to revisit a lot of the songs. Standouts for me are Oh My God, To Be Loved and Easy On Me (Can I Get It is good as well).

People say that “All Night Parking” is reminiscent to Amy Winehouse. While I can hear it, I feel like it has a very Erykah Badu feel to it.

Cry Your Heart Out is my favourite. To me, it’s a masterpiece. It’s a good homage to Rolling In The Deep

    Laga Gaga for Best Actress.

House of Gucci for best picture.

Belfast for everything - Best Picture win

Apparently, the top three is supposed to be occupied by Adele in the UK.
