Who do you think will be taking home the Album of the Year award in January?

It’s between Melodrama and 24k Magic. I’m leaning on Bruno right now, but it’s early. The year end critic lists will start coming in and Lorde will likely be top 5, even top 3 in a lot of them.

I’m predicting Bruno Mars here because Jay-Z is here and will siphon votes from Kendrick.

Lorde will not Grand Hotel this category.

Bruno wins. Let’s just save everybody time and pretend like Kendrick won’t win. We’ve been through this before. The real urban artist will once again get screwed over by the POP urban artist.

These nominations show they don’t want a bland white person to win this so easily, so the whitest non-white person wins, he’s also very popular and basically a pop artist, so everybody gets what they want.

    Basically.

I Think Bruno has the best scenario to win, I’m actually very content with the nominees except for Jay-Z, what the heck is he doing here?

if Bruno or Kendrick wins it would be Ok for me

Lorde having no other nominations really hurt her chances here. When was the last time an artist with no other nominations won AOTY?

Childish Gambino’s album didn’t make enough of an impact.

Jay-Z and Kendrick will likely split votes.

That leaves Bruno to take the trophy home.

    WILL WIN: 24K Magic
    SHOULD WIN: DAMN.

The backlash Lorde would receive winning this category, yikes. It might possibly break her, and I’d hate to saw that happen. But she’s the only white and FEMALE nominee in a heavy urban and male lineup. With this crazy year, I don’t think the sole nomination hurts her all that much. This is the only one that really matters. Clearly, the rule book was thrown out at the Grammys this cycle.

How can they have this lineup and vote for Bruno?! Sure, I understand the math, but it would be outrageous. He’s EASILY the worst of this bunch.

BTW bonus points to all of us who said Lorde was getting in and they wouldn’t allow an all-male AOTY lineup

I still think all the featured artists in DAMN. might help Kendrick here. The Jay-Z nod sounds like a “we’re sorry” to the Carters

He has always given me Lionel Richie from the start of his career. It would be kind like having black pop/R&B star Lionel Richie winning over critically acclaimed and more memorable albums from Prince, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen and Tina Turner. I just would not be overly surprised at going with him, as he is as vanilla as Ed Sheeran but a person of color.

I don’t think Lorde’s sole nomination hurts her, though. She could easily win this with her being the only white, the only female and one of the most acclaimed albums of the year.

The only ones I cannot see winning this is Jay-Z (veteran status or not, I just don’t think he will be able to edge out these contenders) and Childish Gambino.

I even think Kendrick is still in the race, despite Jay-Z being here to spoil things for him.

The general field has finally gotten interesting. I don’t see any locks for the first time in years.

I hope Childish Gambino wins! The album is my favorite of the bunch.

If not, Kendrick should win. I think Bruno is the weakest album of the bunch.

The Blue Ribbon panel might have setup Kendrick Lamar to win, but like others here are saying, Bruno Mars could easily take it. He has won in the General Field before and he could do it again.

Jay-Z is a non-mutha-f’n factor here. His nominations are a mystery. The problem is that he COULD take away votes from Kendrick, BUT HONESTLY… I don’t think he will. Also, Childish Gambino ain’t in it to win it… his album is a little out there and different for voters to go for. Lorde is only there out of pure luck. Someone on the Blue Ribbon Panel decided to fight for her to get nominated… their argument being: “Well fine, but if you’re not going to nominate Taylor, then can we at least make this one nomination for Lorde happen?”

I still think Kendrick Lamar is the frontrunner. Early on before the nominations I warned that Bruno Mars was probably going to win since his music crosses different genres and formats… but it feels like Kendrick’s year after years of snubs. Plus he has both higher sales and critical acclaim. Fingers crossed.

P.S. I hope and pray that Jay-Z’s song of the year nomination over “Humble” isn’t an indicator that Jay-Z is actually the frontrunner for Album of the Year and we are all too blind to see it. yikes!

My money is on Bruno but I have a feeling that Childish Gambino/Donald Glover could surprise everyone.

Lorde won’t win because she’s the only white person(they clearly want a black winner) and didn’t have enough votes for BPVA, it’d not make sense.

Jay-Z nom is totally random, he won’t win, he could take votes away from Kendrick, but really? Don’t think so, his album is a flop while Damn is huge.

Childish Gambino is very random too.

It’s between Damn and 24k Magic and I hope to God they set up Kendrick for the win(which I do believe they did) because 24k Magic is way too weak to win AOTY and I can’t stand the media and award shows licking Bruno Mars ass anymore.  The Best Engineered Album nomination for 24k Magic is not a good sign.

But I think Damn will win.
