@PoweR I never trashed Lorde. I said I liked her, but her album underperformed commercially. But commercial success doesn’t matter anymore in the new Grammy equation.
Everyone is saying today’s nominations are a disaster, except you maybe because you probably care more about the race/genre of the nominees than their actual deservingness. How the BRP exploited and engineered a nomination process through which no white artist can prevail this year, is plain disgusting. There’s a pattern:
1. Song Of The Year: shut out the strong contenders that can compete against urban picks (Million Reasons, Too Good At GoodByes, Shape Of You etc, What About Us, Praying…) replaced them with a shitty 1-800 song that the voting base won’t vote for, and another song by a white artist that is too weak to win over the 12,000+ voting base.
2. Record Of The Year: shut out the strongest contender of the year (Shape Of You) just because the recording artist is white.
3. Album Of The Year: made sure all nominees are non-white and the only white artist they added is the one that the voting base didn’t even nominate for Pop Categories. That way, they can be sure she isn’t anywhere close to winning.
Basically this year their equation was if you’re a white artist you have to be weak and unlikely to win to be nominated (Julia Michaels & Lorde).
Reverse-racism isn’t the way to encourage diversity. This will backfire. And considering how shitty this season will be, people will care less about diversity in the future and use this season as a deterring argument against diversity.November 28, 2017 at 6:35 pm #1202423973
…..Reverse racism isn’t real ……..November 28, 2017 at 6:36 pm #1202423974
I’d vote for Lorde over any of those other nominees any day.November 28, 2017 at 6:41 pm #1202423979
Childish Gambino is out. Jay-Z won’t win. Old white dudes will gravitate towards Lorde. So, watch out for her. It’s a battle between Kendrick Lamar and Bruno Mars. Lamar is overdue for a win in the big one. Bruno Mars appears more to older white, conservative voter dudes. My heart is saying Kendrick, but reality is saying Mars. Bruno prevails by a hair.
SHOULD WIN: Kendrick Lamar, DAMN.
WILL WIN: Bruno Mars, 24K MagicNovember 28, 2017 at 7:03 pm #1202424004
The Grammys know exactly what they are doing. Nominating Kendrick and Jay Z will significantly split votes so Bruno will win.November 28, 2017 at 7:06 pm #1202424007
If Bruno wins this year, it will probably be the worst win in years. He is, easily, the worst nominee out of five nominees. I really really hope that such a bland album with nothing really new, great, exciting or topical win this and yet I’m predicting here, such a waste!
GO KENDRICK!November 28, 2017 at 8:13 pm #1202424036
Should Win: DAMN (Kendrick Lamar)
Will Win: 24K Magic (Bruno Mars)
Melodrama is definitely OUT (it didn’t even deserve to be here – Pure Heroine deserved an AOTY nomination back then). It’s very obvious that Melodrama got in through the Blue Ribbon Panel selection and not through votes. And Lorde won’t even get support from Pop voters, she’ll only get the Alternative vote.
Jay-Z and Kendrick will, unfortunately, split the rap votes. I haven’t listened to Childish Gambino’s album but I’m extremely happy to see him here.
Bruno Mar’s 24K Magic will definitely appeal across the board, especially with Pop and R&B voters. I think that even country field voters will go for 24K Magic over Melodrama as the former is more mainstream. It’s a solid album with no filler tracks, really catchy vibe and it showcases Bruno’s talent. The only drawback is that the album is kinda short.November 28, 2017 at 8:24 pm #1202424041
Everyone is predicting Bruno…
Poor Kendrick, had this not happen, he would’ve had a chance at winning, but not anymore! He’s paying the price of this Diversity Scheme.
Maybe the BRP will learn their lesson and stop playing these dirty tricks. I’m tired of this hypocrisy in terms of racial relations. Like Adele please feel free to NOT submit your album for consideration next time and leave some room for black artists instead of whining when you win! No one forced you to submit your album against Beyoncé’s.November 28, 2017 at 8:42 pm #1202424074
This doesnt even need any hesitation.
Everyone is talking about 24K & Melodrama………….well , the former has a chance while the latter is impossible to win.November 28, 2017 at 8:57 pm #1202424089
We can instantly rule out Jay and Gambino. Kendrick has the upper hand anyways (lost the award 2/3 times+the Grammys wanna seem hip and relevant), and pop voters will split their votes between Melodrama and Bruno.
Will Win: DAMN
Should Win: MelodramaNovember 28, 2017 at 10:25 pm #1202424160
I hope Bruno wins. The ONLY decent thing about Kendrick winning is that Rihanna will get a trophy.November 29, 2017 at 3:42 am #1202424345

Under the new rules, featured artists, songwriters and producers must contribute to at least 33% of the album playing time to win an award, so Rihanna wouldn’t get a trophy if Kendrick wins.

Hmmm interesting. The Beyhive won’t be crowing after all if Jay-Z pulls an upset then.November 29, 2017 at 10:23 am #1202424709
Can someone explain to me why so many people are predicting Lorde, an artist with ZERO other nominations? I assume people are considering her the “safe” choice, but I feel like that would be Bruno Mars. The Grammys could award someone with mass appeal, who is a person of color, who doesn’t have tons of profanity all over his album. I just don’t see any scenario where Lorde takes this…November 29, 2017 at 10:27 am #1202424720

Incorrectly assuming that because there are two rap albums and two R&B albums, the lone pop album will win.
