Listening to this classic by the future 2x AOTY winner.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 20, 2021 at 8:57 am #1204668580Am I tripping or did Tony bennett win Aoty once?🤡 why is everybody talking about narrative? So he should only win (again) because he is old? Lol
And lady gaga is not the only artist without a deserving gf award so please stop. It would be actually embarrassing if she only wins because of pity.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 20, 2021 at 9:20 am #1204668619I tried to find a thread that talked about the country categories, but i couldnt find it. Who do you think leads in these categories? I saw that Dan + Shay are super low on the predictions, but whenever they compete they win.
I think Chris Stapleton is the frontrunner in everything he got nominated for, but Kacey winning over him in Song/Performance wouldn’t surprise me either (can’t see him losing Album to anyone though). I actually talked about Dan + Shay winning 3 years in a row and how I didn’t want to happen again lmao But I guess they’re last because the song just isn’t as successful as some of the other nominees and their own songs that won in the past few years.

Probably because he recorded a semi-commercially successful jazz record in his 90s while dealing with Alzheimers and introducing jazz standards to younger generations with Lady Gaga as his collaborative partner. On top of that, jazz is not typically recognized by the academy as album of the year material. It’s not difficult to see why people in the academy, like instrumentalists, would appreciate the production of Love for Sale and want to reward it over some of the other albums in the category.

Yes, this is really a travesty given that someone as talentless as Taylor Swift has already won it three times.

Can the little monsters please stop pretending they want Love For Sale to win because of Tony? You’re fooling absolutely no one.

Brothers Osborne are probably winning duo/group. They beat D+S at the CMAs and have a narrative since T.J. came out earlier this year. They also got a country album nom unlike D+S.
It’s probably safe to predict a Chris Stapleton sweep in the other 3 categories. However, I wouldn’t rule out a Mickey upset. Jason Isbell is currently 4/4 so he could be competitive in solo perf. Kacey’s Kacey but I don’t think there’s as much excitement for Star-Crossed as there was for Golden Hour.

December 20, 2021 at 10:23 am #1204668757The way this season is so dry. I can barely even bring myself to care about this year’s ceremony, which is a shame.

They’ve won Country Duo/Group Performance the last three years, but all three of those previous winners were big pop crossover hits. “Glad You Exist” was not, plus as lipabridgerstwigs noted above, Brothers Osborne got a Country Album nomination (Dan + Shay did not) and recently performed “Younger Me,” which is about TJ Osborne’s recent coming out, at the CMAs to a standing ovation.
That said, I don’t think they’re last. I think they’re firmly second. The award has exclusively gone to actual duos/groups (vs. duets) since duos/groups/collaborations were combined in 2012 (though it should be noted that two winners, “Jolene” and “10,000 Hours,” were collaborations by a duo/group and a solo artist), and there’s not really a standout choice between the Hurd/Morris, Aldean/Underwood, and King/Lambert songs.

ReplyCopy URLDecember 20, 2021 at 3:20 pm #1204669443Wanda, you should have known this was a risky move, especially considering Goldderby users’ music tastes lol. But courage is always to be admired. What are your favourites of the year?
Just seeing this! I’m in the middle of catching up right now, so there’s not a lot of great stuff as of now, but five albums I really loved from this year:
For the First Time, Black Country, New Road
Daddy’s Home, St. Vincent
G_d’s Pee AT STATE’S END!, Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Pluperfect Mind, Dear Laika
Honest Labour, Space AfrikaLooking forward to your list!
