If LFS loses, pop albums could be winning AOTY 4 times in a row, with Adele coming next year. I think that’s unprecedented.

And LFS is still a pop album, just traditional pop.

I think you’re confused. They didn’t randomly picked two albums and chose Evermore and Donda. They decided to expand the field to 10, and those two records had the 9th and 10th most votes for AOTY. Also it’s likely that part of the decision was due to Harvey Mason Jr’s internal campaign to get Kanye a General Field nomination, as reported by HitsDailyDouble a while back. So perhaps Taylor placed 9th and she just went along for the ride to get Kanye a nom.

I just feel that is strange that the category was extended especially for that two albums, it’s not a coincidence.

It is not strange at all considering the news of Harvey Mason Jr campaigning for Kanye’s GF noms like Boz mentioned. It was just a bad decision do announce the change right before the nominations were out.

I don’t think the expansion is strange. What is strange and a slap to the face of the bottom two is that NYT article. They should have never exposed that information. It makes the number 9 and 10 artists as if they weren’t worthy.

    FYC: Grammys 2022

ALBUM: evermore, Montero, Planet Her, SOUR
RECORD: Happier than Ever, Driver’s License, Leave the Door Open
    SONG: Driver’s License
    BNA: Olivia Rodrigo
    POP SOLO: Driver’s License
    POP ALBUM: SOUR
    POP DUO: Kiss me More
MUSIC VIDEO: Montero, Good 4 U

I really don’t see Olivia being able to pull off a win here. Personally, It’s my favorite album of the year, but she has nowhere near the amount of broad appeal and support that would put her ahead of the (6) other pop albums nominated against her. She has a better chance winning Song or Record, but I’m only predicting her to win BPVA and BNA.

and to be fair, just because Love For Sale is a pop album, it’s not like Gaga and Tony are some pop girl/boy, its Lady fucking Gaga and Tony fucking Bennett. They have mass appeal to several genres, as well as a huge amount of industry respect, plus Tony has a huge narrative going for him, PLUS PLUS they are about to campaign their asses off for some wins. The (absurd) BMV nomination speaks volumes. I truly think the best chance for an album other than Love For Sale would be Batiste’s.

Not only that, but also the Recording Academy should have never made those changes 24 hours before the nominations were released, how dumb are they? They have been critized plenty of times before for doing dumb things and out of the blue we got more nominees than ever, I mean, come on Grammys at least don’t make it that obvious. And yes the NYT threw many artists under the bus just to call the Grammys out, it was a crappy move but they deserved (Grammys) to be called out by the press.

I mean, including 8 more nominees just for the sake of including Kanye in AOTY, it’s such a disingenuous and dishonest move when you realize Kanye doesn’t give a single fck

Yeah, but to a degree, they weren’t. In the year after the whole The Weeknd drama, there needs to be some transparency. I wouldn’t have given names, but people would have just assumed that it’s the least popular acts who benefited, when in actuality, it was two Grammy favorites that benefited.

I am all for them releasing it personally. It’s about time they are more transparent. Also, it shows who didn’t really earn the nod which makes predictions easier. I feel for the artists that probably feel pandered to, but they should’ve never been included in the first place

I completely agree with everything you said. It kills me that even after nominations people are doubting Tony and Gaga and predicting Taylor. I’m a huge fan of both artists, and even I would’ve never guessed the BMV nod. Getting BMV, BEANC, and ROTY shows that they are serious threats to win

How do you know they didn’t randomly pick those exactly two albums? Evermore got no more nominations.

Because Miss Taylor has already 3 AoTY in her bags and Grammy has no business to intentionally giving her the chance to win it so soon. She didn’t even promote this album.
