With a committee the nominations would probably include:

    Lil Nas
    Batiste
    Kanye West (shenanigans)
    Billie
    Rodrigo
    Stapleton
    Bieber
    Arooj Aftab

    and let’s stop at 8.

Strongly doubt Arooj Aftab made the top 20 for Album considering she was 9th or 10th in New Artist, and I doubt the committees would’ve liked Justice. My guess is those spots would’ve been some combo of Doja Cat, H.E.R., St. Vincent, and Jazmine Sullivan.

oh yeah I forgot about Sullivan and H.E.R. Im still keeping Arooj, I think she could’ve potentially made top 20. Imagine this lineup:

    H.E.R. – Sullivan – Arooj – Eilish – Rodrigo – Stapleton – Batiste – West

It would’ve been beautiful. Of course I’m still including West because it seems Harvey would’ve forced the panel to include him, but the rest is gold, Jerry. GOLD!

St. Vincent had no shot at AOTY. She had no support from the rock branch and she delivered a mediocre album. And I’m saying that as someone who adores both St. Vincent (album) and Masseduction.

My thinking with St. Vincent is that she’s considered by many to be overdue for general field recognition, something I think helped Bon Iver, Lana Del Rey, and Vampire Weekend a few years ago, and released closer to nominations this time then with Masseducation. I know a lot of people didn’t care for it compared to her prior work, but it is still one of the most acclaimed albums of the year. You might be right about no Rock support though.

Hmmm. You can’t compare i,i, NFR! and FOTB to Daddy’s Home, though. Daddy’s Home was doomed from the beginning. That article about his father being in prison for being a corrupt millionaire killed her chances I think. And it also soured the whole reception of the album. Yes, she’s overdue for some love, but only if she delivers. And she didn’t.

Oh yeah, Masseducation, not Masseduction. Masseduction is the song. LOL.
No, wait, you’re wrong. Its Masseduction. Don’t play mind games with me. 😀

Isn’t it both? Masseduction is the original album. Then she released an acoustic version called Masseducation. A mess.

@Ghost by the way you’re one of the most insightful, level-headed commenters on Goldderby. Just thought I’d say that.

I’m becoming more and more sold on Tony and Gaga winning this, but this race is going to depend very heavily on two things: (1) how much voters still love Billie Eilish to award her with an underperforming record, and (2) how strong the final-round support will be for top nominee Jon Batiste. They are the two wild cards who I think could throw a wrench into the race.

In such a pop-heavy lineup, I feel that Justin Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, and Taylor Swift are very disadvantaged here as they will be cribbing votes from one another. Lil Nas X and Taylor also failed to pick up key nominations in the pop field (and Taylor failed to pick up any additional nominations whatsoever, on top of the fact that she was one of the 2 lowest vote-getters in this category). I think Billie is the notable exception here due to her appeal to alternative audiences and her status as a recent Grammy darling.

H.E.R.’s album didn’t make enough noise, and Donda is too polarizing.

I agree, I think the writing’s on the wall and Goo-Goo & Ton-Ton are winning. This all seems like a rehash of last year when we all went circles around folklore when it was pretty obvious it was the winner from the start.

no way people are predicting evermore to win 💀 taylor making it on a technicality while failing to be nominated anywhere else should make it clear on her standing for aoty.

Getting nominated is a big hurdle. Now that Taylor passed that, she has a chance just as anyone else. Come on. I’m a fan but I can’t objectively say that she can’t win just because she was nominated because of a stupid decision. She might still gag everyone with a win.

I think HoG will help LFS chances even more. Albeit the mixed reviews for the movie, an acclaimed performance from Gaga and a record-breaking opening at the box office for adult dramas this year is definitely a boost. A lot of voters will probably have seen the movie by the time the voting starts:
