no way people are predicting evermore to win 💀 taylor making it on a technicality while failing to be nominated anywhere else should make it clear on her standing for aoty.

Also, the fact that she already won last year. She’s done in this race.

I think HoG will help LFS chances even more. Albeit the mixed reviews for the movie, an acclaimed performance from Gaga and a record-breaking opening at the box office for adult dramas this year is definitely a boost. A lot of voters will probably have seen the movie by the time the voting starts:

they also have the Radio City documentary airing this Sunday, as well as an MTV Unplugged and The Lady & The Legend, documenting the whole recording of the album, that’s likely going to be released during voting season, so their visibility will be at an all time high

She was done the moment folklore won. I really have no idea what these people are on about.

You may have a point. There is a huge difference between Jon Batiste and those artists, though. He is considered a musician, hence his Americana and Jazz nominations. He doesn’t really fall in the “urban” umbrella either. His appeal might reach further.

I agree with that sentiment that he does not fall under the “urban” sentiment. However, it just does not seem like the Grammys to award a relative unknown in the General Field. It took HER how many GF Noms to win for I can’t breathe ? I like We Are, but I mean you really can’t compare where you don’t compete. Gaga’s and Tony’s narrative, Billie’s and Silk Sonic support, and Olivia’s year trumps the inner Grammy support from someone who can garner 11 Noms. I’m sorry.

i cried. I’m glad Ye is realizing his mistakes, and he can move forward in his life being a better person regardless of what a person thinks of him. I’m just sending love. The Grammys could give him AOTY, but Ye got back his sanity with just one prayer shared with everyone else. As a Kanye fan, I prefer the latter than everything else.

Jon Batiste shouldn’t be underestimated. He’s pulling from a bunch of blocks. Something tells me he’s definitely winning Score Soundtrack & Possibly all of his American Roots noms. We’ll truly know if he’s competitive if he is able to withstand HER in R&B Album & Traditional R&B Performance; also if he’s able to miraculously win Best Music Video but I just don’t see anyone beating Lil Nas. R&B voters love to throw curveballs in the final round. His album is definitely accessible enough.

I mean, did we not learn from Brandi Carlile and Jacob Collier? Please do not compare where these people shouldn’t compete. I loved We Are, but it doesn’t measure towards what the academy usually goes for, a white pop star with a narrative. There’s a bunch of those + one with Tony Bennett. If an R&B artist is winning, it’s definitely Back of My Mind.

Jacob Collier and Jon Batiste don’t seem similar this time. Jacob barely got any genre noms . He definitely was a committee pick for AOTY, meanwhile Jon is all over the place dipping into American Roots, Classical, Film/Media, R&B, & Jazz. Not predicting that’ll he’ll win. I still have LFS as Frontrunner. It does seem like he has a lot of credibility to his name for his musicality , especially for his score with the SOUL Soundtrack

Back of My Mind” doesn’t have that much power to even upset in AOTY. H.E.R. is like #5-#6 in this equation.

To be honest I can’t see more chances for Billie to win her 2nd AOTY… her first album makes a good debut in the industry…hte is a little bit flop for herself(compare to her big success in 2019)I do think if she gets her second AOTY so soon then 1989 and 25 mean nothing. my point of view is that SOUR EVERMORE and DONDA compete for the final win…I don’t think number 9 and 10 in nominations mean failure in the competition, the reason why Grammys put evermore and donda into nominations should be noticed…

The Grammys put Evermore and Donda there for the ratings, pure and simple.

They got rid of the committees who were picking acclaimed/indie artists (much to the annoyance of the big name stars and record labels) and replaced them with direct manipulation of the nominations by the Grammy president to boost the ratings.

Everyone will be watching the Grammys just in case Taylor wins and we get another “Kanye interrupted” moment.

Kanye now says he did it for God, so perhaps God will inspire him again.

Of course, that probably isn’t going to happen, because Evermore isn’t likely to win. But that isn’t the point, people will watch anyway and the Grammy president will be happy, the TV networks will be happy, the record labels will be happy and the only losers will be the people that want the show to be about the best music.

Jon Batiste is not just an R&B artist. He has industry cred in Jazz and Americana fields, too. His album was just slotted in R&B Album, but his appeal is way bigger than that. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jon Batiste wins 4-6 Grammys on Grammy night. I feel him being on Stephen Colbert nightly will be effective enough to score several wins. The only pop star that can ride a narrative is Gaga, and it’s not even her narrative. We already know she’s #1 with Tony Bennett. I don’t think they’re giving Billie Eilish a second album of the year for a so-so era, and I also don’t think Olivia Rodrigo has enough industry cred to win AOTY. All of the other nominees will be fighting for scraps.

I wouldn’t predict wins solely based on nominations count. The winning phase has more more members participating and they have a small list in their hand in opposition to those endless ballots for each category. So in theory they could give more thought to their picks.

On people who overperform like Bieber, Doja, Jon, Tony and Gaga etc. It is a relatively small number of votes and industry campaign is real. I think whispering might be bigger at the grammys than other awards. Bieber got FYC ads since june and had countless promo slots thru the year. Alicia Keys shared a boxset of Love for Sale that I assume were sent to a bunch of voters – Dua did that last year and Taylor in previous eras. Probably most of the contenders also sent screeners of boxsets and we’re not aware.

You can’t measure by chart success only cause music industry is made of connections and that directly impacts the Grammys. Think of Pharell, John Legend, H.E.R., Brandi Carlile, Jacob Collier that had success at the Grammys before they broke to a larger audience. And actually those wins and noms helped them to it.

HOWEVER, having a share of supporters or friends or collaborators that pick your projects on nomination phase doesn’t mean you have a considerable amount of #1 in their ballots. That’s what I believe it’s Bieber’s case. His label and team get enough people to check his name (which again, is not that many) and he lands those noms. But how much of them or the others will actively choose him a win?
I remember people said Bieber had more chances than Gaga in pop duo last year cause he got a pop solo nod and she didn’t. But these things aren’t cumulative and in a larger pool you can lose support in favour of someone who had fewer numbers in a smaller share.

FYC: Memoria and House of Gucci for Best Picture

I doubt the members are voting thinking ‘hmm she just won last year I must not vote for her’

I think it was more of a committee thing.
