This is Billie vs Tony & Gaga, Tony’s people are campaigning as was told pages ago. Meanwhile, Billie and Gaga have side projects for the oscars, so the exposure will be there, considering the movie studio campaign are much more massive, it will benefit both. This is an industry award at the end of the day.

Tony & Gaga campaign/exposure will look much bigger than Billie’s for grammy voters, but Billie has a successful album. Idk, but it’s definitely between those two.

Happier Than Ever is a success at face value, but it’s a big underperformance vs. Billie’s last album.

While Love for Sale is doing nowhere nearly as well as Tony and Gaga’s last album, these types of projects don’t need to rely on commercial success for Grammy success, especially with the narrative this one has.

Billie just doesn’t have the oomph factor to be competitive for AOTY plus she’s splitting votes with all the other pop contenders. Her best chance is ROTY/SOTY and she’s facing triple threat from IGAKOY/LTDO/DL in those categories too. I fear she’s not winning anything this year.

AOTY is between Tony/Gaga and Jon Batiste with Tony/Gaga comfortably leading.

y’all hype Future Nostalgia for AoTY and look at what happened.

it’s always the obvious winner who gonna win and this year it is Sour.

LFS is not my type of music, but I can respect the vocal and production value of the album. It’s very fine album from that standpoint. I’ll admit, I don’t mind it winning because Gaga deserves to have a general field win after all her years of worthy material. I’ll still never forget ASIB being snubbed entirely in this category when it should have been the winner that year.

As a Gaga fan, I don’t want LFS to win GF and wish the winner list can go like this:

    AoTY: Jon Batiste/”We Are”

    RoTY: “Leave The Door Open”

    SoTY: “Happier Than Ever”

Best Pop Duo: “Kiss Me More”

It sounds strange but I hope they only win Traditional Pop Album. Pop Duo maybe but “Kiss Me More” is my top 3 favorite 2021 song so…

Oh, academy, why are you doing this to us? We do want Gaga to win AoTY but apparently not for this project…

Please don’t talk in “we” like the entirety of Gaga fans don’t want her to win AOTY for learning to sing a new musical genre with the help from a unique friendship and musical pairing crossing generations and doing a sequel to the album that legit kept her in the music industry after she was spitten out by the media. You don’t want Gaga to win, just keep it at that.

They can do that in Traditional Pop Album, though. I think it’s fair for people to be a little disappointed that something like that is going to win the big trophy due to sentimental reasons. It’s pretty lazy and uninspiring.

Just because it’s traditional pop/Jazz doesn’t mean it’s underwhelming win. The voters don’t look at it through pop stan lenses. What they see is someone 95, battling alzaheimer, forgetting everything but miraculously still manages to remember the songs and delivery a great body of work with the same quality his listeners have been accustomed to.

That is all but inspiring. It’s a story of perseverance. You’re free to not like Jazz. I don’t either. But calling it uninspiring is simply not true.

If Gaga’s name wasn’t attached to it, I’m pretty sure that everyone here would have no issues with the album winning. I mean apparently people are even rooting for Kanye, Bieber and Jon Batiste, as if their work is groundbreaking.

It’s a great year to reward AOTY to a veteran again as none of the nominees this year are clear frontrunners. Olivia feels like the new teen pop princess that comes along every generation and should still prove herself a bit more before taking such a big award home. Billie has a more unique style and story of her brother being the producer but she hasn’t really developed so much from her debut that she already needs to win again. People talk about covers but Doja Cat and Bieber, to me, brought nothing new to the table either. Feels like typical commercial music of the now that’s well made but doesn’t really inspire or excel. I personally think MONTERO would be quite an inspiring winner based on his story and background, but he’s probably a bit too memed to take home the really big category and he already underperformed in nominations. Taylor Swift, I think absolutely no one besides die hard stans want to see her win a fourth time for an album that wasn’t really a moment. For Kanye West, personally I’d find a bit funny for someone to win AOTY after pissing on a Grammy, but idk, it doesn’t really feel like his moment atm. For H.E.R. and Jon Batiste I can’t say much as I’m not too familar with their albums and only listened to a few songs, but maybe a bit too lowkey to win it rn, altho I do feel like it’s really the year for an underdog to take it.

What doesn’t bode well for Sour and HTE is this:

AOTY winners in the last decade that scored craft nomination(s), either Best Engineered and/or POTY:

    Folklore: POTY
    WWAFWDWG: Best Engineered, POTY
    24K Magic: Best Engineered
    25: POTY
    1989: POTY
    Morning Phase: Best Engineered
Random Access Memories: Best Engineered, POTY
    Babel: POTY
    21: POTY

As you can see the only exception to this rule is Golden Hour (and it’s understandable since it’s a country album). But all the other AOTY winners this past decade got at least one craft nomination either POTY, Best Engineered or both.

Again, that’s to YOU. Nobody has to feel that this is an inspired win just because it’s Tony and Gaga. It’s boring and predictable, and this would be right up the voters alley to pander to a narrative like that. In any other situation, this album would have been regulated to Traditional Pop.

And at least those artists’ albums have completely original work on them. This obsession with Gaga and your “need” for her to win a general field category can just stop here. Root for her; nobody else has to.

Sour has no AC appeal. It’s not winning AOTY. Olivia is comfortably 4th behind Tony/Gaga, Jon, and Billie.
