And we head to 2019 Grammys a bit earlier
Album of the year
Kacey Musgraves – Golden Hour (WINNER)
Cardi B – Invasion of Privacy
Brandi Carlile – By the way, I Forgive You
Drake – Scorpion
H.E.R – H.E.R
Post Malone – Beerbonhs and Bentleys
Janelle Monae – Dirty Computer
Various Artists – Black Panther OST
The 2019 Grammys, the first with 8 albums in AOTY Line-up had a country winner after many years of pop/rock albums winning. Kacey won against big hip-hop and rap albums. Drake, Post Malone, Cardi B had 3 block-busters albums with multiple big hits that defined late 2017-2018. Brandi Carlile was driven by acclaim and so was H.E.R, considered a musical prodigy. Dirty Computer by Janelle Monae was also highly acclaimed(ranked #1 on AOTY.org YEC). Last but not least, Black Panther OST got a nod, with songs from Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd and SZA.
Some photos from the 2019 Grammys:
Kacey won 4 Grammys, including AOTY and Country Album
Best Rap Album winner Cardi B
Best New Artist winner Dua Lipa
H.E.R, Lady Gaga and Brandi Carlile won in RnB, Pop and Americana categories respectively
In overall 2019 Grammys were female dominated, after 2018 got backlash for being male dominated.

1. Golden Hour
2. Dirty Computer
3. Invasion of Privacy
4. H.E.R
5. By The Way, I Forgive You
6. Beerbongs & Bentleys
7. Black Panther OST
8. ScorpionAnd as far as how it ended…

Black Panther was a good album but it definitely couldn’t hold a candle to a “proper” Kendrick Lamar album and would have felt like an “Apology” win.

Honey, Black Panther, Cardi B, Drake, H.E.R., and Janelle Monae released way better albums.

I liked that Post album too, but i would vote for Cardi B, i remember listening to IOP daily in 2018 without skipping a track. It is a fun record, accessible and after years of no mainstream female rap representation(minus Nicki Minaj disney pop rap) it was a breath of fresh air.
