Deserved winner. Nas should win for Old Town Road in ROTY tho.

    RIP SOPHIE

Billie deserved. NFR was a better album IMO but it had no chance against Billie. I think this lineup is… interesting. Don’t know how Lil Nas’ EP made it here

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO A
    Norman Fucking Rockwell A-
    Cuz I Love You A-
    Father of the Bride B+
    thank u, next B+
    i, i B
I Used to Know Her B-
    7  C-

At the time it was extremely close between Billie and Lana for me. I don’t necessarily like the songs on NFR less now, but it feels more like “let’s make an album that sounds like XYZ” than “let’s make a great album,” the same problem I have with folklore. I like Ariana’s record, but it is so rooted in her star persona (and not her musical persona) that sometimes it turns me off. Vampire Weekend delivers on the sonics as usual but their songwriting isn’t as sharp after half a decade of fame and fortune. Bon Iver’s have a similar issue, although I never really cared for Vernon’s songwriting in the first place. With quite a few great records nominated in other fields, I’ll take Interstate Gospel, UFOF, El Mal Querer, and maybe Country Squire over most of these nominees.

Norman Fucking Rockwell! was the most deserving nominee, but WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? was so close behind it in terms of quality that I can’t complain about it’s win. thank u, next is also great but not quite as win worthy as Lana and Billie’s albums.

I was fine with Billie taking AOTY, as well as Best New Artist and ROTY. Lil Nas X probably should have taken SOTY, while Ariana should have won the Pop Album and Solo Performance categories. Although I think Billie’s album was arguably more impactful than Ariana’s, you can’t tell me that an album like thank u, next didn’t tower over the competition in vocal prowess.

Lil Nas X’s EP being in the mix here makes no sense, nor does HER’s inclusion, frankly. I would have added Rosalia and Tyler the Creator.

Jacob for the win. Wouldn’t be mad if Taylor wins.

Women in Music Pt. III A-
    folklore A-
    Future Nostalgia B+
    Djesse Vol.3 B
    Black Puma B
    Chilombo B-
    Hollywood Bleeding B-
    Everyday Life N/A

Haim takes the win for me with their most emotionally complex album yet. folklore might be a more complete piece of work but it feels like what I’d call an aesthetic assignment, and evermore is a better-written album based on the established style they reached. Future Nostalgia is good pop music, but its concept fell sloppy. Collier and Black Puma are the craftsmen choice they always squeeze in the gf now, neither record interested me apart from a few songs. Post handed in better songs than last time, and no one will convince me to listen to a new Coldplay album. Snubs wise, Fiona Apple still reigns supreme after almost a year, Lucinda Williams, Run the Jewels, Laura Marling, and Bob Dylan to name a few among lesser sins.
